Default Ornate Engraved Printing Plate???

I found this item today at an old homesite that I have recently found a 3 ring CW bullet and an 1862 Indian Head penny. It measures 1" x 1 3/4" and has a lead back on it. I am thinking that it is some kind of decorative stamp plate but I'm not positive. Can anyone confirm what it is and how old it might be?

Thats pretty wild. Either a printing plate or perhaps used to make wallpaper prints

An ink stamp, probably used to personalize letterheads or similar. probably mid 1800's, a cool item and stamping is all the rage in arts and crafts right now, might bring a hefty price on ebay or something unless you keep it yourself.

My guess is that it's part of a mold for a silver barrett.

Cool find!

Thanks for the comments and ideas. Maybe I'll ink it and see how it will reproduce the image that is on it. Either way I think its really interesting with the intricate details.
