Default My best find ever!!! Gold coin !!!!

Last Sunday went to the old picnic grounds Ive been hunting for years. It has given me some great finds like a 2cent piece, shield nickles, v nickles, Indian heads, and 4 barber dimes lots of rusty nails and lead. Sunday went down dug a couple pieces of lead then got a solid foil hit ( pretty much dig every thing here ) pinpointed small so i dug it about 3 inches. Seen what i thought was a piece of jewelry seen the initials put it in my pocket and went on. Hunted about another half hour found a 1874 IH and went home. After I got home and my wife asked me what I had found I showed her my IH and what I thought was a piece of jewelry. Then I got to looking at the piece of jewelry and realized there was something on the other side. I got out my magnifying glass and seen the one dollar and the date of 1862 and thought oh ****.This is definitely the find of my life. I'm not sure what the black is on the back of the coin but I'm thinking it might be some sort of glue to hold it into a piece of jewelry. What an awesome find.

So that looks like a Love Token. People would take real US coins, grind them down to a smooth surface, and then engrave initials or images on them.

I wish you have a better photo of the black marks on the other side of the coin.

NICE FIND!!

Too bad they destroyed it but still must be worth quite a bit. What a great find. Can you get better pics of it? Those are ultra low res.

What kind of detector do you use?? Did it hit solid foil or was it jumpy?
