Default What M.D. is the best at unmasking targets?

It has taken me awhile to realize that the sheer depth of a detector isn't nearly as important as how well it can unmask good targets (coins and jewelry) from in among heavy trash such as old iron and so forth. What is your opinion on which top-end detector is the best at doing so, while maintaining a decent sweep speed. Thanks for any replies...

The new Gold Bugs/ G2 and AT pro do very very well at
a mid point price.
The GBs are faster lighter.
The AT pro maybe deeper and waterproof.

All 3 are hot on gold

The Fisher Gold Bug Pro or Teknetics G2 (same machine) are the best at unmasking good targets out of bad iron I have ever used. Beats my Etrac/explorers,F75LTD/AT Pro and the others I have used over the years.

They both have dual processors. I think that has a lot to do with it.

Let me know If I can help with any questions or get you pricing.

Thanks!

Well I have used Garrett, whites, and minelabs. I would choose my minelab etrac over anything i have used so far.

I know the lowly Compadre is considered a low-end detector-I would just like to add that it is unbelievable in some of the things it can do. Just one example and I will not say anymore-it can disc out a paper clip and find a coin 3" below it. At this setting I have also found a small gold chain that couldn't be picked up by other detectors in a/m mode. A true a/m mode detector that I had gave a small signal at 2".

I have been reading ALOT about this lately on MANY forums....Seems **NOTHING** currently can beat them in the "Junk" at un-masking!?....

I agree with sllingshot47 on the Compadre, a truly unbelievable jewelry finding detector. I don't believe there is a better tot lot hunter.

The Minelab Musketeer's are also good in iron. Maybe not the best jewelry hunters but deep coin finders.

I found this video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0_7m2gsV3s Its a nail/coin test of the Minelab Musketeer Advantage, pretty impressive especially for a 10" coil.

The Goldmaxx will find a coin in the same hole as iron but youre not allowed one in the US.

Do you mean find targets under iron or next to iron? If you are hunting a trashy area then you want something with a fast recovery speed. My Minelabs have been better at discriminating out iron but the faster recovery speed of the F75 allowed me to hit targets right next to iron and other trash. So say I lay a can, a dime, a nail, and a pull tab in a row next to each other and sweep my coil across them the F75 will read each target separate at a much closer distance than my Explorer will. But the F75 like most Fishers tends to read iron, especially small iron as coins occasionally but more often than my Explorer does. I've never used a full proof detector, they have all been about the same. I would say my XLT was the most accurate at target ID though.

I've just tested my omega like in video 3" up. I used a 1/8"drill bit (like2 1/2 long), silver half franklin, buffalo nickel, silver ring, small gold ring.

With drill bit over pieces....
Over gold, quick beeps of different IDs. If I dis-iron, I get the gold ring everytime under foil ID.
As for the silver and iron, I get both under auto, if next to each other, both but very quick sounds. If I dis iron, then only silver or nickel. WoW

All pieces can be ID'd 4" apart side by side at same distance for what I think is normal swing speed.

I know dirt is different but just testing this on your own will help!

BTW. I tried a 22 lead bullet, have to be right on it to detect.

Here's my observations from talking with several people who have them and I've watched them use them a few times. I don't own one but my observations still. Several did not even know they were using a DD coil, had no idea...=big holes. A DD coil is much better than the concentric any day imo. I was watching and chatting while I was finding stuff with my E Trac that was missed btw. To a lot of the many years of detectorist it was the first time they had ever had a machine with a DD coil. Their finds will soar! A new episode in finding targets for most. What I have found out is most will have a junk to good target ratio that is very very high. I personally think myself if the E Trac is used on the same ground in TTF it will spank the Fishers behind and a whole lot less digging too. So discrimination is the name of the game for sure. Just my observations

Thanks everyone for all your replies and any future ones. They coincided almost exactly with my own views too. Sorry about limiting my question to just high-end detectors, we all know that there are also some lower priced detectors such as the Compadre which are also very good at disc. out unwanted junk, while still picking up on the good targets. Thanks again for verifying my own research, it seems like there are certain detectors which stand head and shoulders above all the rest...
