Smile Tax Return=My First Setup

Hello everyone! Had to share my excitement that I received confirmation from the IRS that my return will be direct deposited on March 1st! What this means for me is I can finally get my first metal detecting setup, and get it all at once. Usually I like to slowly add to my hobbies, but after following this forum for a couple months now and researching like crazy, I couldn't be more excited. The setup I have decided to go with is as follows:

Tesoro Vaquero (Manual ground balancing is huge. The soil here isn't highly mineralized, but I go on many weekend vacations during the summer and don't want to be held back by any enviornment I run into). Also, since it will be my first machine I really wanted a beep-dig machine to really start understanding everything my machine is telling me. I know the way I think, and I feel like I may begin to become lazy and not dig targets I should with a screen.

Garret Propointer - Enough said. I have read nothing but good things on this forum and reviews online. After watching many youtube videos on people using it versus not using it, I feel like I can get a lot more dig time/targets into a hunt with it.

Killer Bee Headphones - I hear the comfort is great, inline volume control, and very good warranty. I will be hunting in some noisy areas from time to time, and I want to conserve my batteries the best I can. One 9volt battery for the Vaquero isn't too rough on the pocket but I'd still like to make them last as much as possible.

Lesche Digging Tool - I was very tempted to just ignore quality when it came to the digging tool, but everyone raves about them, and I figured why make it harder on myself. They are well constructed, and seem to be a majority favorite from other hunters. A little pricey, but I know I will get some good use out of it.

Further down the road I may pick up a 5.75 for the Tesoro, but in my immediate future I don't see myself hunting very trashy areas, or areas that will will be too much noise for the stock coil. However, I do feel like it would be a good option to have in case I do run into those areas. I plan to have this machine for a very long time, and want to learn it the best to my abilities so I'm not shying away from added accessories in the near future.

Sorry for the rant, but I figured I might as well give my reasoning behind everything to hear more opinions, stories, advice, or just general comments from everyone. Can't wait for that check to come in, and this darn snow to finally melt!

Good choices across the board, you should be very pleased with your decisions. Your absolutely right with the manual ground balance and should be the first thing you practice and get used to, a properly set manual ground balance is key.

I'm excited to have and use a feature such as manual ground balance. It's a lot of piece of mind to know that your machine is working to the best of it's capabilities in all areas.

I see a lot of questions about the ground balance, and there seems to be a lot of confusion. If it helps anyone, this is the video I watched which gave me some visual insight on how easy it is.

It also goes in to some supertuning which is always nice to know when hunting spots that you believe "you've hunted out".

Default more than happy

[QUOTE=acon4433;703488]Hello everyone! Had to share my excitement that I received confirmation from the IRS that my return will be direct deposited on March 1st!

I finished my taxes yesterday and I am happy to say Uncle Sam gladly accepted my online $3002.00 payment of my tax burden as of March 1st.
It should be a fast turnaround from my account to yours same day service.
I don't have much withheld from my income, so I save up and am prepared for this each year.
I wish you the best on your new purchase and hope you continue to enjoy this hobby......Gil

Ya I did the e-file to direct deposit on February 20th. I can't argue with a 9 day turnaround, but I'm so excited to see it hit the account and I can make the calls and set up a delivery! Can't wait to get this gear in and start messing around the house until the snow dies down a little. Slowly but surely its going away!

This is exactly the same package I bought last may, as you know.

I was going to buy a 5.75 eventually, but I just picked up a good deal on a 10x12DD Wide Scan.

All kinds of excited.

You are gonna love this setup!

Not that you have to worry about it right away, but there is something else you will want to eventually learn and that is called power balancing.
Plenty of time for that after you get a few hours under your belt, but when you are ready...

Yeah man, thanks for the help! The wide scan is definetly tempting me, but I figured I should be in some serious time and effort with the stock to get used to the machine, and go from there. In some areas that I have planned to hunt this summer, that 5.75 coil is screaming my name. We will see though.

I'm glad the package is tried and proven with happy results. Makes me even mor excited to get going.
