Default The woods give up more silver - 3 barber, 3 merc

Took half a day off to enjoy the weather. Found these coins along with 16 wheats. Wheats same shape as always. One 1927-S just completely disintegrated in my hands as I was trying to gently tease out a date. Wheats mainly from teens and 20's. The 1917 merc is in fantastic shape, I'd almost give it an AU.

Thanks for looking. Happy hunting all.

Awesome job on finding the silver. Do you know what used to be in that woods that you are hunting? Keep up the great digging! : )

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Frankie - I was led to the site because aerial photos show it used to be a ballfield in the 1950's. That section turned up '40s and '50 wheats, and silver of the same time frame. There was also a structure back there at one time, a bit removed from where the ballfield was. There are a few old appliances, rusting buckets and the kinds of trash you'd expect from an old place, also some old telephone poles standing or fallen. There is a old metal outhouse back there too, filled with cans from a drink called Chelada. (That is a Beer/Clamato drink that Budweiser put out in 2008.) The area that is turning up the coins now (and these look like 1910-1915 vintage) is on the other side of the house from the old ballfield, and it is a lot of coins, so I am guessing it saw some kind of public use as a play area or used for social gatherings (church or something). Then there was a third area a bit removed from the other two that turned up a good number of 1910-1915 coins that was really small, so I'm guessing a spot of shade under a big tree where people picnicked?

I wasn't even planning on hunting these areas where the older coins were, but you make one lucky find, start to circle out, and have found a new hotspot. In this case, on my way to another area I found a wheat near the path through the woods, popped over to the other side and prompty found two indians.

Aerial photos from the 1950's give no clue to this older stuff, and topographic maps back to 1908 don't show the house, but my feeling is that this isn't a old 19th century home. Sorry if all this is too much blabbing...I like reading this kind of stuff and seeing pictures of hunting sites because it can always give you that nugget of an idea.

I know you're kidding, but I hear you . It's probably a good time to buy a lottery ticket. It's like they had money fights back there or something.

Also lucky, even when it slows way down it will always be a go-to site with a chance for an oldie. There's no way to completely clean it out.

Sorry to hear about your snow. If it makes you feel any better, I had it tough too. 70 was a tad too warm for me and I was a little uncomfortable .

Demolition - see here:

http://www.historicaerials.com/

It looks like your town goes back to 1949, which is pretty good. Most of the country only has recent maps posted so far.
