Hello all,
I'm trying to figure out two things about these coins. First, are any of them real? Second, are they silver and is there any way I can test them at home without purchasing any kind of special kit? I bought these coins in Singapore about 12 years ago for around 30.00 bucks. I've done a little research and believe some of the foreign coins may be the real deal and definitely believe the US coin is a replica/fake. Also, when I run these under my detector they show one notch about the penny on the ACE. I've run similar size silver dollars under the ACE and it shows as a dollar so this little test makes me believe they possibly may not be silver. I scratch the replica/fake US coin to see the underlying metal but it still looks silver in the scratch. The coins feel heavy in weight comparable to a large silver dollar. Please take a look and let me know what you think. I'm open to any advice you may have. |

Cant tell the size or whether with no reverse if its a Florin or not but I cant think why the Victoria should be a fake. The Elizabeth one looks like the date says 1903 which it obviously doesnt.I think most people will want better pics.AAh,just looked closer, its a crown for victoria.I wouldnt think it was fake but then again I think you can shoot foxes with blank rounds.Would love to see a closer pic of the Elizabeth ll reverse as Ive not seen one of those.Probably a commemorative crown.

It's hard to tell for sure but what is I see is a bunch of coins that all have the same general overall appearance. A flat-grayish color. The coins do not look struck to me. The uniformity of them suggests they were all made at the same place. Just my opinion though.

I need better pictures on the crowns but from this distance I see no reason to believe its fake, its well worn also, the Victoria one that is.IF ITS NOT ITS WORTH AT LEAST £15 PROBABLY MORE.So thats nearly your money back.I just dont recognize the other one but it wouldnt be worth much even if real.

I'm not a coin expert but the dull grey color would have me suspicious.

When in doubt, check 'em with a magnet... Silver won't attract..
Look for thin lines around the circumference of the coin... __________________ |

Come on somebody with better eyesight than me.Does that Elizabeth ll really say 1903? Very suspicious looking anyway.

My guess is that since the US coin is fake, and they're all sealed in the same plastic sheath, they're probably all fake, but just a guess.

Yep,Elizabeth one isnt real imo.I dont recognize the reverse, looks like an older reverse on a newer coin and the dates impossible.Sticking my neck out now but the Victorian crown looks real from here;Im only saying LOOKS.

Thanks to all for the info. They're removable from the plastic and I'll take be photos when I get the chance. Did the magnet test and no sticky stick. The silver nickel may be the metal mix. They definetly don't shine with finger rubbing live finding silver out of the ground. Again, thanks for the responses and ill throw up some more pics later.

I wouldn't have high hopes for those.
(and you should post the pictures right side up, especially with a question like that) Ironically, and maybe the laws have changed in the last 12 years, the Singapore government don't play when it comes to counterfeits/fakes. You definitely would not want to hang on to something like that there. |

Although no good determination can be made from those pictures, I would say the odds of them being real are 90/10 against it. RickO

why not hold on to them? if i live here in the US, and happened to have bought some fake coins12 years ago, the Singapore government can do something about it? put a sticker on the outside of the plastic (copy), you should be covered.
People sell replica's/reproductions on ebay all the time. Likely they are fake. verify if the weights are what the numismatics books say. __________________ |
