Default Is this a good deal?

Hello I am looking to start metal detecting as a hobby. I seen on craigslist a Garrett investigator Ace for $ 75. I am assuming it is a 90"s model but I'm not sure its green and has a solid coil. It has no screen just two knobs. My question is this a good deal if its in good condition? Or should I go another route? Thanks
Dave

That's a new one on me. You can get a new Tesoro Compadre for $150 and a lifetime warranty.....something you won't have with any other detector.

Looks like an old style Ace 150 with no screen.
Not a good deal.

If you want a true starter unit that won't frustrate you, there are 4 that most of the members here will fight about but will also recommend...

The Tesoro Compadre and the slightly upgraded Tesoro Silver
The Garrett Ace 250
The Fisher F2

A few like the Whites Coinmaster, but not as much as the others..

These are all at $200 and under and all will give you a great first experience.
As you upgrade, you move up in features and benefits from there.

Dog pound thats the one. Thanks everyone for the advise. After reading your post I'd rather get a new one that I know there not going to be a problem with it. I'll look into the ones that you all have mentioned.
Thanks Dave

The original ACE was like that.....That model there is what they have taught the "Crime Scene Search" class with at Garrett....Now they use the CSI 250..............
