pretty sure i have my mind made up on the fisher F5 for my first md. order it in about a week then just have to wait for this damn snow to melt

You'll be very happy with your choice. Now you should concentrate on figuring out where to hunt because that is WAY more important than which detector to start with. Get yourself a good game plan for the Spring with many ideas... many because for one reason or another a list gets crossed pretty quick. I've had times that I thought I had a couple months of ideas lined up, but a few weeks later I was back to the drawing board.
