Default Garrett Pro Pointer vs Detector Pro Pistol Probe

I have seen a lot of discussion about the Garrett Pro Pointer on here and many of you love it. But I have looked up some others and I wanted to know what your opinions were on the Detector Pro Pistol pinpointer? Thanks

Have both, like the Garrett much better for three reasons, It much smaller, does not interfere with the detector and is plenty sensitive for picking those deeper targets.

I cant comment on the pro pointer but my pistol probe gets great depth
It can interfere with my detector but i just point the detector coil away from the hole. I have mine mounted on the shaft of my detector in its holster so the size dosnt bother me. The guy in this vid thinks its the best.
When i get my back up/loaner detector i am going to buy one to try

I have the pistol probe also, I can pinpoint a lot of finds from the surface and reduce plug size and quick recovery. The garretts are very popular, though I never tried one and a lot of people swear by them. i use an old leather gun holster for the pistol probe on my belt, the stock holster breaks easily. They cost more than the Garrett which probably makes it less popular but you get better depth.

For a pin pointer depth is not that much of an issue.. 2 inchs is all you need... After all you dont want another "little" metal detector.. You want a pin pointer.

I have a friends that have different pin pointers and when we are on a hunt I get the same request over and over "Can I borrow your Pro Pointer for a minute" It is rugged and you can really scrape in the hole with it to find your target. I also have the X1 Sunray mounted on my E-Trac but I generally grab my Garrett first I use the Sunray to confirm what I am digging after locating it with the Garrett (Sunray has capability to be a "small coil" )

I love my Garrett Pro Pointer! I don't know what I would do without it.

Yes i can see where that might be somthing to consider but since i always carry my k-bar knife (8 inch blade) in my left hand for digging
They never call about the pistol probe all they ever see is the knife

Man, I wouldn't let that guy anywhere near my lawn! What a gaping hole! By the way, I use the cheapo Harbor Freight pinpointer. It's about the same as the White's Bullseye in performance.

I'd have to dispute that one ual10. I believe the Garrett gets just as good of depth, if not better than most. I switched to a Sunray X-1 on my Minelab Safari from the Garrett. Granted, I'm still getting accustomed to it, but have already borrowed my partner's Garrett several times to verify targets.

Anticipating really liking the X-1, I had sold my Garrett Pro Pointer. Today while hunting, I started considering carrying another Garrett for a back up. I also had another really good reason to buy one again, but ol’ dude syndrome has once again left me forgetting what it was.
Good luck with your decision.

Pro Pointer is by far the best I've used!

I have tried both and I prefer the pro pointer for several reasons:

- Pro Pointer you just hit one button and go. The Pistol Probe has several dials to adjust settings and unless you want it on ALL the time you need to hold down a button while you use it.

- Pro Pointer has a nice little LED light which I like.

- Pro Pointer is much smaller. The Pistol Probe is very large and bulky.

- The Pro Pointer vibrates harder the closer you get to the object and also beeps faster. It really helps me know exactly how close I am to an object so I do not damage it.

- The Pro Pointer is about 50 bucks cheaper!

Just my two cents!

There is no comparison to the ProPointer. It is an awesome piece of alien technology. I think they found the first one at the Roswell crash site.

But, seriously, I would never own anything else. I have two of them. Worth every dime. Cut my digging to 1/4 what it was with a generic pinpointer.

I have not used a Garrett Pin pointer but have read and seen them used. They pick up a coin at about 2".

I do have a DetectorPro Pistol Probe. It, is also a PI detector like the Garrett, but it detects at least 6". I have thought of rigging it on a shaft to use it at Fair Grounds where the coins are on the ground and don't require any digging.

I dig a lot in the woods for deep coins. I don't miss the deep targets with it.
