Default Last Hunt of the Year Nets Silver!!

Well, I got out yesterday for one last ditch effort to find a silver quarter. While, I did not find a silver quarter, I found 0.25 cents in silver! I started out at an unproductive soccer field where I have previously found some older wheaties and silver ring, then I remembered an old house I saw burned by the Fire Dept earlier this year. Taking a leap of faith, I headed off to that now vacant lot. My first signal was part of a toy cap gun, and the finds just got better from then on!

After talking with some passing people, I resumed my hunt, and to my surprise, a jumpy 28-35 VDI yielded a 1943 P war nickel!! Not two feet away I got a high dime signal, dug down, and got a wheatie... I took out my probe, and there was still something in the hole! A 1935 Mercury dime in beautiful condition! Right next to that hole, I got a similar signal, and found a 1946 D Rosie!! Three silvers in one hunt, I was ecstatic! (Still am!)

All in all, I got $0.92 in clad, and seven wheat pennies...(another personal record) all ranging from 1941-1956. I also found a toy badge, Steelers ring (junk), a plumb bob, and various other relics. I hope everyone has a productive 2011! Happy New Year--

Nice haul on the Silver, those wartime nickles are a nice suprize. The ring is very cool! You did great on the hunch about the burned down house. Should be worth another hunt or two..

Sounds like a great hunt to me. The silver in any form is just plain fantastic. The ring is added pleasure.....Congrats.

Thanks andy, bruce, jack&jill, and disconnected! Yea...those nickels sure do catch you off guard when expecting more can slaw or pop tabs! I'll definitely be revisiting the place...maybe here in a couple days to get a jump start on my 2011 totals! I've never had a 3 (or two) silver day before, and this was a great way to close 2010! Thanks, and HH!

I wish! I did a little research and found out that they were put in Kellog's cereal in the 70s and 80s....I wish it was a bowl ring! Maybe next time!

Oh, I found it a while back. I'll go snap a pic and put it up in my finds album.

Default Mercury dime

From what I can see the Winged Liberty Head or "Mercury" Dime looks to be worth between $1.75 and $3.00. Congrats
