Default Case? Make up, cigerate, or snuff case?

I found this case that I belive is made of copper. It has a Leaf design on the front and a strip design on the back. It is about 3 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long. What was it a case for. My first thought was cigerate. My mother thought Snuff (big in the south) and my Father thought ladies make-up case or chewing Gum case.

I found one very similar to that but it seemed to thin for cigarettes.

I think the case opens the wrong direction for it to be a cigarette case.

I'm leaning more toward it being a makeup case, such as for loose facepowder.

However, your mother would know better than me about snuff cases.

I don't know a lot about cigarette cases but I have sold a few over the years. Most of the ones that i have seen has either a hinged metal "bar" that holds the cigarettes in place (or an elastic band). You might want to look and see if there is any evidence of something like that on the inside. I have seen a few of the cheaper tin ones that have no bands though.

Here is an example of one with the elastic band.

Wouldnt need a box that big for snuff so I would rule that out.

I wonder if snuff will make a come back. Can't smoke anymore, and chewing is gross to behold. I think you'd have to wear lacey sleeve shirts to get the full effect though, and a dickie.
