The upper Midwest has been frozen up since right after Thanksgiving. There has not been any swinging of the detector here because of it. Jill made a suggestion we go south over the Christmas holidays, visit a few beaches, look at the different culture and experience some mighty fine southern cooking. And! Of course take along the machines to create some memories that have to last us to spring.
We flew in to Raleigh N. C. on Xmas eve day to late to do much other than sleep then got up early on Christmas and drove toward Georgia we got south of Savannah when the edge of the road got to us. We booked a room, put one of the Dfx’s together and with just a little time went out to find if there were any local parks. We needed some items for our comforts and being a holiday the only place open was a gas station. The attendant gave the fill in on the local park and directions. She also said the park is hit by a couple locals. I guess seeing the place I think it would be expected. So with little light left Jill and I headed directly there. We only had a little light left to work with but managed about 20 minutes on the grounds. I liked to say we were very successful but the truth is we left with 7 cents Just a Nickel and two newer Lincolns. But the plan was to give this park a couple of hours the next morning. The following lines will cover our finds and locations. None of the hunts were more than a hour and a half as we were vacationing also. Richmond Hills, Georgia. $ 1.54 (7 cents included) clad, 1 wheatie and a Christmas decoration. Very little trash (the competition must by very good). A very old and beautiful park with a tremendous Veterans Monument. Brunswick, Georgia (two days stayed). $ 4.31 clad, my second matchbox find. A Ford LTD Police car dated 87’, and a plastic horse that was sharing some soil with a Nickel. If you ever get to this place spend some time walking the beaches on Jekyll Island. Historic and just down right gorgeous. Actually seen three dolphins in the Atlantic. They were doing surface dives as they patrolled the edge of the beach. Georgetown, South Carolina. $ 2.24 in clad, 2 wheaties. Also a copper bracelet. The type that is worn for arthritis healing. Grounds here were amazingly clean again very little trash. Pawley Island, South Carolina. $ 1.15 in Clad, and a key chain from the class of 09. A little more trashy but then again it is a vacationing target. Again this is a fantastic beach that does not get the raves of Myrtle Beach but then again its not as spoiled either. We did make it to Mytle and Surfside too! What a Sunset! Conway, South Carolina. $ 2.26 in clad, a few pencil heads, a dozen plus pop tops and the typical can slaw. The last stop was on the road back to Raleigh, North Carolina at a County Park. Only spent an hour here but wished more time was available. It just seemed a place that was going to yield a really nice find if you spent the time. A lot of deep digs and good moisture in the dirt The Total here was only $1.52 but only two pennies and the two quarters in the find were from 67’ and 68’. Several of the dimes also were the mid and late sixtys. And one nickel was from 57’. Grand total for the trip $ 13.02 and 3 wheaties. Still looking for the first silver coin. __________________ |

Looks like you and a nice trip and visited some great looking areas. Too bad the hunting results couldn't be better, but you had a great time, did some hunting and made some finds. Thanks for posting. Happy new year and best of luck in 2011.

I may be making a trip to Mayflower, Arkansas in early Spring. Hoping for some MDing along the way. Really like to buy another detector for my brother to use. We'll see.
Thanks for sharing your adventure. Marty __________________ |

Making us here in the north, feel just a bit warmer. I enjoyed the Pic's and often reflect on several MB vacations. All were before I ever took up MDing. I can't wait to hit an ocean beach. HH
