Default AT Pro reviews?

I have been looking for a reason to try the new Garrett AT Pro but I'm just not seeing any motive. I realize the AT Pro is still new but it is in enough hands that I expected to see some more conclusive results by now. One of the things I watch for, when looking at buying a new to the market detector, is those reviews that say "I took [enter new model] out to my favorite hunted out site and found" posts. I'm just not seeing them. Sometimes you've got to draw a conclusion from a lack of information rather than posted information.

By now the E-Trac was an obvious winner.

I am a newbie, but isn't it a bit early to come to a conclusion? From what I have been seeing, folks are just now getting these in their hands. It is also pretty darn cold out here in PA!

Yup, i was waiting for this too....It seems to be a promising all around machine, but doesn't seems to be killer in any one area....That being said it is the 1st waterproof machine with a VDI display which is a nice step in the right direction.....

Yes it is a bit early but then an exceptional detector will prove so on day one. As soon as the Minelab E-Trac was in hands reports of worked out sites giving up goodies again started coming in. I was hoping we'd see these with the AT Pro as well. I guess time will tell.

I've had all of 10 minutes on mine. Not much help in way of a review since it was a quick after work hunt at a school soccer field in the dark. Winter brings in the darkness in theses parts right around 5pm. The next day the snow rolled in so I might not get another shot at it for a long while. I dug just three targets with it and all three were clad. Two quarters and a penny. Around 4-5 inches deep.
I know I'm starting to see good finds with it on the other forums. Deeper, non-clad finds. Must be the southern boys that don't have to deal with winter.

Ah, I see. Now, is the metal detector market kinda like the Radio Controlled car market where one manufacture comes out with one model and 6 months or less another manufacture comes out with a competing product? Or is it much slower than that?

Thanks!

I was pm'd from a member from another forum yesterday telling me to check out NASA Tom's (Thomas Dankowski) forum to read over some of the AT reviews. I couldn't afford an AT but if I could I think I would hold off on one until all the hype slows down and it gets some real testing.

I have to disagree with you. When the Etrac first came out there were nothing but complainers. I got mine a little over 2 years ago and I couldn't find much information on it from users in the US. I bought mine because of the Explorer's reputation and I figured it would be better then the Explorer. I had to get my information from the Europe guy's and they hunt different from us. I think you have only been seeing good reports on the E-Trac for the last year as more people have gotten them. As for the AT, it's only been a couple of weeks, but I have seen some good reports already. The reports are out there, you just have to look for them.

Well to an extent. With metal detectors it is more a battle of technology. Now I know I'll ruffle the feathers of some of our vintage detector users, but I am in no way degrading some of the older detectors. I still think one of the best detectors, for flat out depth in coin hunting, is a 19 year old detector.

Detectors will sometimes make small advances in technology and every now and then a huge leap. I learned my lesson in keep up on new technology, so I keep a close eye on new detectors. Over the years I've learned there are obvious signs when a new detector has made a huge jump in technology. And a huge jump in technology often equals new goodies from old sites. First sign is of course people reporting that they're pulling new goodies from old sites. Second is people new to the detector is bringing home more goodies than the odds say they should.

pro778, My experience with the E-Trac was a bit different. I think even to this day most everyone will agree all you need to do is go to any E-Trac forum and it seems quite obvious their finds are not just a little better than most, but far more deep silver from hunted out sites. My first week with the E-Trac was nothing short of amazing. And I'm a White's fan.

Any of you with an AT feel free to send it down to me to Miami and I will test it for you over the winter while you read posts, coin roll hunt, shovel snow, etc..

Har-de-har!!! Go ahead, make fun!!! I lived in Texas for many years before moving to Colorado. The lack of humidity (and sweat) make the short season comfortable! I just wish more women up here wore bikinis!!!!

I would also like to suggest that it's early yet, and it is the wrong time of year for most people to be out detecting with new toys. Weather can be hindering people's abilities to get out there.

Also, those who have weather permitting may not have their detectors just yet. I am still on the waiting list for mine. But I plan on going back to a gravel tot lot that I hit up and had good success. I also plan on doing a side by side with the gf and her soon to be ace 250 vs. my new AT Pro (when it comes in). I am going to follow her footsteps in a NEW location and see if I can pick up items literally right behind her.

It is late in the season and it seems ALL the companies are having problems getting parts and detectors out. I know what Detector is saying.... by now you get a lot of people jumping on the band wagon trying to get the market buzzing.... especially on a killer machine. I also agree there are a lot of detector being put out without anything but more bells and whistles. I think some of the best improvement i can think about has been larger coil improvements and putting them on as standard coils. Also the headphones have made a big difference. I think a good example of what Detector is saying was when the Xterras came out ... everyone had to have one same with the whites and Etrac. What happened people began taking more picture of their finds and posting them... more than normal id say. We should be seeing some of that .... It may be like the M6 and safari great detectors in their own right, but they have to be better than the BIG BOYS to turn heads.

Well, just in time for a few solid days of snow, my AT Pro arrived. Gonna have to wait for Spring for any review from me now unless Wisconsin gets a freak warm spell that melts all the snow.

Come on down to south central Colorado!! (San Luis Valley). No snow in the valley, plenty on the mountains. Daily high temps in the high 40's/low 50's....but it ain't gonna last long!!!

quite a few reviews out the actually...look around. they are coming in daily. I plan on writing another soon. Been getting way better at using it over the last month...was going for a major water/beach review after this weekend's hunt but instead had about the worst trip ever (see summary in beach/water section).
