Hello all. I am brand new to this hobby, and was curious where i should start MDing for best results. I haven't finished going over my own yard just yet, but would like to start compiling info for the very near future.
I live at a man made lake that was built in the mid 50's. On one side of the lake is a small permanent community, and a large summer camping area with two or three playgrounds, large open fields, and other similar stuff. There are two maintained boat ramps, and one non maintained boat ramp. There is two main areas that are crammed with campers all summer long, and lots of alcohol consumption. On the other side of the lake, there is two or three foundations of houses that were here when the lake was built, and are now gone. I believe there may be an old pier or two, as well as the shell of an old root cellar as well. To the north of the lake, there is just over 2,000 acres of public access hunting/ hiking land. No trails except an old road that leads past a small dump to a deer stand at the mouth of the public hunting area. Just curious of where i should be most interested in looking. Thanks for any help. |

start at the totlots( play grounds) to get some more time with your machine, then hit the camp grounds, throw in the old home sites and you have your self some good places without ever going to far. post the pics so we all can congratulate you on or finds. happy hunting

WOOT WOOT! Thanks! The totlots are well within walking distance of the house, and empty as can be this time of year. I haven't found my headphone plug adapter yet, so i will be loud. Luckily i will be all alone.

Where ever the largest cluster of people get together, is where the most amount of objects will be dropped. You will have to dig through a lot of trash around the camping area. The hunting area probably won't yield much either, except for spent casings around the base of the stand. If it has been used for a very long time you may find some older casings. I would consider really exploring those 2000 acres for old foundations and other lost in time places. Good Luck

Some great opportunities in your home area.... tot lots and camping areas are good (likely lots of pull tabs in the camping area... use a sniper coil). HH RickO

What I do, and I'm new to all this, is work new areas for an hour or so and if I strike out move to an area that has coughed up some booty. That way I'm always expanding my search area but not coming home empty handed. I'm guessing the old tot lots will pay up something.
