Today class, we are going to made a deluxe leather sheath for your digger, no matter what you are using. My quick sheath the other day didn't get into much detail. First I want to say, I make them to use, not be pretty. I use whatever leather scraps that I have on hand left from other projects.
First, trace the blade pattern. Add about 3/4" to the outside for the rivets. Make three separate pieces. One about six inches longer for the back. First, fold the flap on the long piece to make the belt loop and rivet it in place. Trace your blade on the center piece. If you want a simpler sheath, you can leave out the center section. this should be a close fit to the blade. Cut out the center and glue this to the back. I use rubber cement. You can rub off any extra when it dries. Next, glue the front piece over the others. Punch or drill holes for the rivets. A drill press is handy. I used a 5/32 bit. The length of rivets you use will depend on how thick your leather. They should barely stick through the leather. You can purchase a cheap rivet setting tool at the leather shop where you get the two-piece rivets. Attach the rivets. I rub candle wax on the edges and melt it with a lighter. Let's go detecting. Somehow I ended up with an extra picture and I can't get rid of it. __________________ |

Actually, for the belt loop, you need to measure your belt. This one is actually to short for the belt that I have been using lately because the buckle won't go through the loop. I can use it with others though. Just make sure that the loop will be long enough after it is riveted for your belt and buckle.

Here is a sheath that I made for booker's Gerber Applegate. I have one too, so it was easy to get the right size. Sewing by hand is a little harder to do.
