I've noticed my MXT tends to false in fields in IN and AL. Everything will be fine for a while then my detector will start just doing light beeps on everything no matter where I'm swinging. I have to turn it off and try again and it'll work alright again for a bit then act up later. I think maybe my gain was set too high. I put it on the default setting and things seemed ok but certain places it just acts up. I even unplugged the coil and made sure the connection was good. I'm using the stand 9.5". I made sure it was set to ground and it just seems to go sporadic sometimes. Keep in mind the fields I've hit are no where near any power lines or electricity or anything, just cow pastures with a lot o' poo.
If you all know what might be going on I'd appreciate the help. I noticed when I use my 5.3" it never does this. Maybe a bad coil? __________________ |

i read about something like that in a article about mxt's ,could be the that the ground has alot of chenges in it set it to prospect see if the ground changes alot if so try just setting groung to lock and see what happens dunno if this will help but i heard the ground track can get a little confused

Pretty common especially when its dry. I use an explorer and still get that. The MXT has the best tracking system that white uses, but its a hot machine. In the dry dirt there is a lot of iron and hot rocks here. They tend to affect the detector more when its dry that wet. Ive even found i get more EMI in the dryer ground than i did in the same spot when wet. RUST causes this as well in the fields around old home sites. So you arent alone and its not your machine.

Thanks for the replies. Makes sense because the fields have not seen rain in many weeks. I feel better now.

Zapper did a good response. Iron can affect the disc while the auto-tune will try to cancel the "soil-condition" out. And with that the machine becomes noisy. Try to balance the machine on a clean spot ( pull trigger for pin point to look for metals ) and then rise and lower the coil for a few times. And then switch the trac toggle to the lock position.
If this won't help, give whites a call. __________________ as long as the "Schatzregal" will rise...

Don't use one of those but I was reading this website and there might be some more insight to your problem here:
http://nevada-outback-gems.com/MXT_f...n_disadvan.htm From what I gather, this unit is set to high gain so there will be some more background noise than most units. "MXT DESIGN: High Gain – The MXT has a greater gain (amplification of the signal seen by the receive coil) than most general use detectors. Most of the MXT's ability to get deep items or small gold nuggets is due to this higher than normal gain (and the circuitry to handle that higher gain). While this does give the MXT increased detection depth, the trade off is increased chatter and noise. The higher gain, the fact it does not average passes over targets, the greater operating Khz of the MXT, and the analysis software which wants to keep marginal targets all combine to make the detector notably more chattery than most. It is most noticeable in areas with high mineralization, or trash. Although the satisfaction rate of MXT buyers is extremely high, the noise issue is probably the most commonly cited problem by the few who do not like it. However, this is an issue that can be dealt with. There are a number of practical techniques to cut down on the background noise including use of the relic mode, using of double D coils rather than the standard 950 concentric, and turning down the gain. Although turning down the gain will cut down on the noise significantly, it will also significantly reduce depth and sensitivity. In order to get those deep coins others have missed, or to pick up those small nuggets, the gain needs to be up at +2 or +3. So to get the full performance from the MXT, one needs to learn to get used to some chatter and learn to pick out those good targets from the background noise. With practice and a little tweaking, one can find the best balance of coil and other adjustments to make the targets as distinct as possible from the background chatter. See the FAQ section for further information and suggestions on minimizing background noise and chatter." Hope something here or on this guys website helps! HH __________________ |

when the MXT is properly adjusted those falsings are generally caused by small metal particles. when I was new to the MXT that fact was a little annoying, but after some months using the MXT it becames one of the reasons I like this detector.
If you can't stand it by now, try adjusting the threshold or turning gain down a little, a gain set too high can cause that too good luck! |
