Default My Oldest Find Yet!!

Here is my oldest find yet, an 1869 Shield Nickel. I found it in a turn of the century park (19th century) park. It is not in great shape but at least you can read most of the writing and symbols.

It was down about 6 inches and when I found it, It was covered with dirt so I tossed it into my finds pouch thinking it was just a dirty nickel. Wow, what a surprise.

Congratulations! I found my first one about 2 weeks ago. At least you can read a date on yours. Took me about 10 minutes, wetting, wipe it, angleing. I think I finally came up with 1875. They are a real historic find in my book, kinda like finding a seated silver!

Congratulations, you certainly don't see many of them dug up. And to get one that the date is legible is even better.

Very nice find! You have lots of history and old parks down by you! I was down there with my son last summer touring John Deere and the arsenal, no detecting on that trip though.
