Default Advice on additional coil

I just purchased a DFX. I will get a small coil for trashy areas. My question is if I want to get a little more depth without decreasing my sensitivity to coin size objects whats the best route?

I was thinking about the (6x10) Eclipse Search Coil (P/N 801-3216)

Jack

Hi Jack,

The 6"x10" DD is an excellent choice as a replacement for the 950 concentric, especially in trashy and highly mineralized areas. I hunt in both and had a DFX but now using an M6.
The 6"x10"! has excellent target separation! yet still gets very good depth. You can run higher sensitivity and gain settings using a DD coil vs a concentric because they lose that component due to the nature of the design.
What you get with a DD coil is better target separation and smoother operation in mineralized soils.

The 5.3 Eclipse is an excellent small coil for depth, is easier to pinpoint a target than the 6x10"dd but lacks the sweep coverage

Some prefer the 4x6" DD for ultimate target separation compared to any coil and probably best suited for the trashiest areas where depth is not an issue as it doesn't go very deep. HH Bill

BIll covered the bases very well on the coil choices. I have the 6X10 DD Eclipse and I like it so much that I keep it on the detector all the time and use the 950 when I go to the beach. If you do decide on the 6X10, I think that you will be very pleased with it.! Oh, and congrats on your new DFX!

Hi Jack, and congrats on the DFX. I just know you are gonna love this machine. I'm looking forward to seeing what you unearth with it.

Thanks for the great input! I have learned so much from the forums. I have really enjoyed my BH 3300 but am looking forward to the DFX. I have only been MD'ing since October and have found silver as well as wheaties and about 450 or so clad coins. I am very excited about the DXF and its programmability. I have about 3 miles of old railroad grade that will be my first area with the DXF. A lot of area but good for learning and practice. Thank you again for your help.

Jack

Congrats on your new DFX Jack. I too run a 6X10 DD on my MXT and my 950 coil is basically brand new because of it. I have areas around me that are highly mineralized and this coil cut down on the noise I was getting from the 950. Pinpointing with it on the MXT has not been an issue for me but may be different on the DFX. Good luck with whatever you decide on and keep us posted with your finds. Steve

Hi Tony,
Will this coil extend my depth for a silver dime or nickle? I thought about this coil because I will have an opportunity to do a little relic hunting next summer. So many choices. What about a Hotshot coil? Thanks for your input!

Jack

It will certainly do that and more. One of our club members (right in front of me) pulled a silver 3 cent pice out at 8+". I never thought it possible but there he was doing it. I would definitely consider this coil.
