Default Nailed a Merc today. First silver coin

I received my first metal detector a little over 20 years ago. This is the first silver coin I've ever found.

One of the many older homes here in Charleston caught on fire a few months back and has since been flattened. Today I received permission from the owner to hunt the land. There were plenty of cut nails to be found. One of which was rather attached to a Merc. I have since managed to separate the two but there is some serious encrusting and rusty goodness left behind. It's bonded on there tough too.

But, just before digging the happy couple from the dirt, I found a 1942 D Wheatie. And while unearthing the Wheatie, a green marble rolled out of the hole to say hello.

EDIT: I've managed to get enough crusties and crud off to see 1944.

That poor merc! Congratulations on your first. You'll be popping them out like nothing from here on out.

Thanks folks. Yes, it did take 20 some years to get my first silver coin. But, I tend to hunt so infrequently that it's really sad.

I was really hoping to pull some silver from a 1700's plantation home soon. But I learned today from the homeowner that she has brought in some state archeologists to excavate the property to determine where slave quarters, privies and other outbuildings were on the property. So that means that the state wants no one to dig on their site until they are through. From what I gather from her today, that means all finds will be stored in a box in Columbia for no one ever to enjoy again. BS
