I went MD'ing on a lot that my grandmothers house and her fathers house was on here in town. I had about 1hr to kill before I had to pick my son up from his cousins house. In front of my great grandfathers house I found about 18 pennies dated from 1971-1984...so nothing spectacular. So I went to where my grandmothers house was about 25 yards away and found 3 quarters from 1980-1983, a 1972 dime, 2 1984 nickels.

I was about to go, and was swinging my MD as I was walking to the truck and got a signal...I dug down about 5", and inside a grease covered rag was this lock and key..looks to be solid brass, but dont really know...i just washed it and cleaned it up and this is what it looks like. still works and says Corbin on it.

it had some waxy ate up paper, then the greasy wrag then the lock inside...it was out by the old shed my grandfather used for storing plows and garden tools....and storing his moonshine from my granny

I'm no lock expert but that looks like something from before 1960. Might be closer to 100 years old than 50.

Nice find. It's a RR switch lock. My best friend works for the RR & has several of them. Not sure of the date though perhaps 1970's-80's.
