Default Had a good scare hunting a field..

I was out hunting a overgrown field & came across an opening/small clear area out in the field & what I saw put a fear in me I have never felt before..It was very muddy in this opening and in front of me on the ground was the largest snake trail I've ever seen, I wear a 10 1/2 size shoe & this fresh snake trail was a few inches deep & as wide as the length of my shoe, It was from one end of the weeds through the clearing & back out to the other end of the weeds. I was frozen in place & started hearing things moving around me..After a while I slowly made my way back out to the road & to my car..The only thing I can think of is maybe someone let there pet python go, I don't know of any normal snakes in Missouri that would get that large..Anyone ever seen anything like this while out hunting..

So it was 10 1/2 inches wide??? HOLY !!!!!! Could be a rattlesnake. It might have ate something and slid threw there. Or yes, a python! All I saw today was a fawn deer lol

Man, that would have to been a serious snake to leave a track of that size. Here in Missouri, the Bullsnake is the longest snake reaching 8+ feet BUT the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake is usually bigger around. It can get over 7 feet long itself.

Being a 10.5 shoe wide, I am guessing that someone's pet got too big for for them to take care of so it was let go, and now Fluffy calls your hunting area home.

Doug

It is likely not an indigenous specimen.... I would notify the game department so it can be trapped or killed. Not sure how cold your winters get there but that could solve the problem (if they get really cold). RickO

I have a friend at my work that raises burmese pythons, He said something about the way they move that most likely its not as wide as the length of my shoe, I guess they scoot the mud or something from side to side & that makes the trail look bigger then they actually are..So me & him and another guy are gonna head over there on his next day off & try to track it down..He has the knowledge & equipment to catch it..

I have the equipment 9mm or 45ACP Hollow Points!!! I hate snakes lol But they are illegal to kill in Missouri. Anybody here ever use snakeboots or snake gaiters when MDing?? I was planning on getting some for our Mo. copperheads, rattlers and moccasins and use them hunting. Lightningjack, keep us posted and we want pics!! :P

Jack, You're a Treasure Hunter. Just think what a snake that size would be worth. If nothing else, you could make a nice pair of snake skin boots. See if it can swallow your detector first. If not, you're safe. Those mounds are probably a big snake den.

If there are two things in this world I despise, that's ants and snakes. I was in the middle of the Everglades (Ochopee FL) at my friends place having a campout for an event. It was about 4am when I awoke to gun shots. My buddy yells (he is deathly afraid of snakes). Long story short, he went to use the bathroom in the house that was unfinished and when he opened the door, a huge Burm.Python was curled up in the house as he said, In attack mode. He plugged it with 15 rounds of .40 and it still would not die!

By the time I had gotten there, my other friend took it out with a machete to the head.

One of these days when I get my copy of the photos from that weekend, I will post it. We took all kinds of crazy photos on that one.

The next morning we could not figure out how to get it out of the house. It must have weighed 500lbs (just guessing). We wound up tying a rope around it and pulling it out with a Toyota pickup. What a mess that was. Ruined breakfast! That's why when I'm out in the Everglades from now on, I carry my pocket .410 revolver http://www.taurususa.com/gun-selecto....cfm?series=41 in addition to my Kel-Tec. Shotgun in your pocket! That's for the Python's!

BTW: Those snakes are not from here. People let loose their pets when they got too big out in the wild and they are taking over around here. Between them and the Giant lizards from hell, we are being over run by pre-historic left overs.
