Red face I think I found an old dump

A few months ago they cleared about half an acre of woods across the road from me for a new house. They haven't done much with the site so I decided to take the detector and see what I could find. I didn't expect to find anything, really since there has never been any houses or anything there before. Well was I suprised! Way in the back of the clearing I started to get hits, like crazy. A few nails, screws, beer cans (punch tops, but too rotten to keep). Then I got this hugh signal, about 8" down I find an electric motor, sucker weighs about 30 lbs. I look in the hole where that came out and I see thousands of little metal disks all crusted together. I start pulling them out and I see a bunch of small brown glass bottles, no tops, no lables, all the same. See the pictures. After talking to an older neighbor, he said the locals used to use the land as a trash dump, up to about 50 years ago, when the trees got too big and close together to drive between. I think I'll leave it alone, as the digging is real hard with all the roots and rocks, and all it is is trash anyway.

The little disks look like they are brass. They are not magnetic, but clean up easy and look like brass, not rusted at all. I guess they are punch-outs from some process and were just thrown away. The rest is junk.

Default Pictures added

I finally figured out how to add pictures...I'm a little slow sometimes.

Enjoy! If you have any questions; just ask.

Pay no attention to the date on some of the pictures. The camera was not set to the correct date, so it shows up on some until I noticed it was wrong and I turned it off.

Dumps are so cool to dig. We sift them, shovel full at a time. Nice bunch of bottles, maybe some older ones there yet. Steve in so az

I agree about the bottles. I'd stick with it you never know what you will come up with.

WOW..Those little metal disks all crusted together reminds me of that serious on pawn stars where the guy brought in the clump of Spanish coins found at a ship wreck..Cool find.

Default I dug a little deeper into the crusted disks...

I could see something in with all the cruster disks that looked different. After seperating some I found the item that the disks were punched out of!

So, any mystery about what they are is solved.

Of course I don't know what the finished product is designed for either...

I just thought it was interesting.
