Default Garrett Propointer, or Ace250 upgrade?

Hi all
I was wondering weather to upgrade from my Ace, or get a Propointer. I'm leaning towards the Propointer.
The vast majority of my time is in digging and finding, after locating with the Ace. If the PP does what people say it does, I could cut my total MD time in half. Right now I use a cheapy Chinese Eagle Eye pinpointer.

BTW, does the need to upgrade/sink money ever stop? I don't want this to become like my other many money-pit hobbies! What do you think - will the Ace and the ProPointer do me just fine for most stuff?

This money pit hobby pretty much pays for it's own way.

I have a tupperware container FULL of clad, along with some silver I recently found that covers more than the price of a scoop I just bought.

If you are happy finding coins and jewelry at not-so-deep depths, the Ace will serve you well. IF you want more tho...other models do more, cost more, but FIND more.

The $$$ takes care of itself.

That might be the way to go then. I have no interest in digging any deeper.
4 inches is hard enough where I dig!
Is that the main advantage of upgrading from an ace?

If you dont want to go deeper then get the pinpointer. If you do want to go deeper then turn your sensitivity up and still buy the pinpointer.

Is this technology unlikely to be supplanted? What I mean is, based on the past, in a couple of years will people be going "oh, how foolish that Ace and PP look these days with our new Wizzbang 2000!"

When did the ProPointer come out? Is it wildly different tech than what was used before it? Is the stuff used before it junk now?

Whats the actual range of detection for the PP? For example, in ground, my current cheapy one is about .5-1 inch on coin at best.

I have a Ace 250. After I had it a week, I bought a pinpointer. I shortens your recovery time by alot! Sometimes the targets on the side of the hole. Sometimes the targets the same color as the soil. You wont be sorry.

I don't know when it came out, but I think its fairly new. The range of detection on grassy surfaces for me is around 1.5'' to 2''. Great machine, I never regretted buying one, just glad I got it because I had no idea how many other pinpointers where out there and when I did a search it was like the first one that came up so I bought it and I didn't really know anything about it.

2 words of advice for ya. Go Pro-Pointer!!

You will not regret it I love mine. I used it today to find a lost bolt in the yard that came off my lawn mower's wheel. Can't cut the grass nicely on a 3 wheeler . HH!!

Trust me I'm a Rookie (less then a week Md'ing) and I got my Pinpointer yesterday and got to go out today and found $1.43 in clad in a very short period before rain ended my fun. My dig time has pretty much dropped to less then a minute almost.

I get loud signal with my tesoro, get out Pinpointer stick it to ground find exact spot cut a small plug and it is usually right under small plug.

Has anyone used both the cheapy Eagle Eye and the ProPointer? What earth shaking difference did you notice? I know its better, but $150 better?

Seriously Japan, get the Garrett pin-pointer. Ive got one and it is brilliant. I cannot imagine digging without one. What a drag that would be. With the pin pointer you can find whatever it is you are targeting in seconds. The depth varies with the ground condition, but generally down to 2 inches, sometimes, if you hold it still over the spot for a few seconds, even deeper. You are in Japan earning yen, whats that? 10,000, not even the final bill for a good night out here. Go for it, you will not regret it for the time saved and the simple convenience of it.

I got the Garrett PP two months back and never looked back. The cheapy from before fell apart twice and wasn't great to begin with. The Garrett still has the same battery in it and I've used it a lot. 2 to 3 inches from the grass top for diff metals.

The pro pointer is a tank!
Well worth the money.
I turn the switch off and on constantly throughout my hunts and have dropped it on concrete a few times.
Still works perfect and a real time-saver, especially on the really tiny small disguised bits and pieces my Vaquaro picks up.
