Default MXT coil for deeper coins....HELP

I did a search on the forum and didn't find the answer I need. I'm using the standard coil that came with my MXT and I haven't recovered a single coin past 5 inches. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need a deeper seeking coil? If anyone knows a good one please help me out. I hear of people digging 8 inches + and finding very nice coins. I'd love to join in! Thanks!

My guess is that you may find more
use for a smaller coil.

Happy Huntin,

A lot depends on where you are hunting, ie high trash sites, etc....
Learn to run the MXT on the edge of insanity. (Would one of the MXT experts step in here, please?) I'm not available enough to explain it all, but others here can.

I learned from a few guys on this forum and you can't go wrong. Lowjiber is one of them. Shoot him a PM.

Personally, I use the 6X9DD coil. Never take it off. Put that sucker in Relic Mode, flip the switch forward and crank that gain. WOOHOO!

Thanks for the replies. I've used the 5.6 inch coil too and have excellent results in trashy areas but it just seems that I'm not finding coins deeper than 5 inches at the most. And those end up being clad . What difference does it make putting it in relic mode? I'm a coin shooter...Will this still be viable? Thanks in advance.

YES! Pop it in relic mode, push thast trigger forward and crank that gain.
Watch the numbers.

Set eveything at presets if you wnat, but if you get a whisper, crank the gain...

Lowjiber can guide you better. He has everything saved. Shoot him a PM.

Trust me...

Thanks Snowy. I'll keep that in mind. Hopefully I'll get better results in relic mode than in coin mode.

Bonesquat,

A while ago a thread on the MXT was created to help our many MXT users.
Here is a link to it. One of the first post pulls together many links to other MXT info. Enjoy.

I also have the MXT. I mostly use the 5.3 coil due to the amount of trash in the ground. Once your presets and watch the gain to go for deeper targets. My deepest find so far has been at 19", so with those coils and the knobs set correctly you will get the depth.

The 300mm coil is also around for deep stuff but honestly I have not cleaned up enough shallow stuff in my search areas to use its potential.
