Default Introduction Friendswood Texas

Hello all,

I live near Houston on the way to Galveston.

Very new to the hobby or addiction as it might be called. I just bought an Ace 250 stock model and I intend to use it until get really hooked and pick out an upgrade for it.

First hunt I found three modern pennies in a local park, nothing to brag about but it is encouraging for a first try. I travel a lot this time of year for work, but should be able to get serious about detecting this June.

I see the biggest issue to be finding sites to hunt. Any thoughts about researching an area?

Welcome from NE Texas. The ACE 250 should find some good stuff for you. I have gotten some real good information about areas to hunt from some of the older people I go to church with or have other contact with. Find out where the older sections of city are and just drive around looking for homes for sale or vacant lots and contact the owners or realtors for permission to hunt. Most County tax appraisals are online now and can be searched by address. Get involved in a local club and network with other members and they can help you find some good areas to hunt. Good luck and post up some photos of those cool finds !!!

Your area goes back to 1957 on historicaerials.com
I have found this site helpful. Use the tools, overlays, zoom, compare tools such as swipe etc

Talk to to the old folks, they love to talk and it's a treat to listen to them. They can tell you all kinds of stuff about the area. What was where etc.

Hello from a little north west of you, Near Abilene. If you've got a local coffee shop or resturant where the older folks meet, go buy them a round of coffee and open your ears. They can most likely give you info about the surrounding areas. HH
