Default Holy Thursday/Good Friday Silver

Hi everyone, yesterday I went to the beach with the Dual Field and Ace 250. There wasn't much wet sand to hunt due to the tides so I only managed two pennies and a bunch of trash with the DF. I put it away and started hitting the dry sand with the ACE, I managed to find a nickel, a few pennies, and my first Standing Liberty Quarter which is dateless! I called it quits shortly after that and went back later that night to get in some more practice with the DF. I hit a few more pennies and that was it.
This morning I hit the beach around 8:30 and used the PI for about 4 hours. I actually managed to find more coins than my first few hunts combined and found my first DF silver which turned out to be a Rosie. I'm starting to recognize the soft sound coins make, since before this hunt they were few and far between and not as easy to distinguish. I've gotten used to the harsh sounding iron, nails, lobster trap sounds, and even bobby pins. I can definitely understand why people give up on PI machines, they can be extremely frustrating and I can attest to saying my fair share of unholy words over the last few days but I'm going to keep at it. Sorry for the lengthiness of this post. I hope you all have a great Easter weekend!

Amazing all the old coins that still come out of the sand. Nice SLQ find. That is one coin I have never found. Congratz!

The quarter looks beautiful as it is (IMO). Glad to hear that you are making progress with the DF. Pretty soon you will be an expert with it. I'm still learning too and hoping that it all pays off with some nice gold this summer. HH!

Thanks for the comments everyone. No worries Joe I'm not the type to give up , I just didn't have a chance to hunt until yesterday because I was waiting for my long scoop to arrive and considering how much !!!! I dug with the hand scoop my first two times out I preferred to wait for it so I could feel like I was still in my 20's and not all broken lol.
The scoop is huge and working with that and learning how to pinpoint with the DF have been challenging. I'm up for the challenge though, I have plenty of reading, studying, and practice to put in. I expect to do well with the machine, just like anything else in life that is worth doing, time and effort are required and I'm willing to do what it takes to make it work for me.
As for cleaning up the Quarter, I don't clean any silver coins, I keep them the way they are. I know that the coins from the beach are probably not worth more than melt value because of how the beach kills them but I want to keep in the habit of not cleaning coins in case I find something valuable.

As frustrating as hunting with the DF has been so far, I think it's totally normal because with the ACE 250 I purposely discriminated against iron and foil and now I have a machine that costs a bit more than triple that one and I dig a ton of it, so it's been an interesting ride so far but I'm looking forward to what lies ahead, plus it's been pretty cool to guess what's going to come out of the ground, everything sounds a little different from pull tabs to batteries, to bullets lol, it's always a mystery!

No doubt, the PI does have a learning curve. I only get to use it when I visit my daughter in NC, but have really enjoyed learning this machine. I still dig it all, but have had fun 'calling' the find before I dig it. RickO

Congrats on the Quarter. Im starting to be able to tell what the sounds of my Surfmaster mean also. Bobbie pin= light sound beep along, Coin seem to be so obvious loud single beep, Iron tends to be double quick beep. I dig all anyway, Cant pass up!

Congrats on your finds and tones are your friends. I don't have a PI machine but do have an Excalibur II and had to learn (and am still learning after 4 months) the tones. On my machine, tones can vary beach to beach. But, solid tones are solid tones and I ding them.

Nice silver Steve and congrats on putting in the time and effort to lear the machaine. I have a Beach hunter ID but all the good things I have heard about the DF I am real interested and would love to see how it would do over the same old swimming hole I have hunted the last two summers. I have found a lot of silver there and I know there has to be more. Good luck, Jim
