Default Scabbard throat

Thanks to Bonesquat for his thread that reminded me of a scabbard throat i found a couple years ago. I went out into the shed to look through some old finds. I got lucky, first box. This is a copper with gilt Its 5" by 1 1/2" in size. I never did anything with it, or looked at it twice. After cleaning off some of the crud tonight I could see some crude scratch letters. Now I would guess this was a naval sword by the rope knot decoration.

Best I can read

initials are W.E.D.

really crude but readable

world war 1917 1918

The other side

W.E.D.

war with Spa**** yada yada cant read because gilt is off

Just thought it was interesting.....Gil
