Default Cheap Digging Tool

I was at Home Depot the other day and decided to pick up this garden pick for around $15.00. I thought I would give it a try.

I modified it by drilling a hole all the way through the head and installing a screw on both sides.

It worked flawlessly all day yesterday. We'll see how long it lasts. The ground here is a monster. Not bad for the price though.

Nice looking tool, will double as personal defense weapon. Predator tools are also nice but you pay for it.

No doubt. With that in your hand, you probably won't get many "curious" types following you around! Kind of reminds me of a story of a guy I met in Africa many years ago. He was a writer for Lonely Planet travel guides and one of his beats was West Africa. He said to avoid trouble he openly carried an ice axe in his hand when he walked about. Apparently it served as a good deterrent.

Project inexpensive digging tool completed, magnet epoxied in handle. Magnets protrude about 1/32" from base of handle.

Phil, just wondering why you didn't put the magnet on the business end of the pick? It would save you having to reverse your grip on the tool to use the magnet.

I have flat magnets that attach to head of tools if situation requires. Magnet in handle allows me to reach into places the head (or my hands) won't fit. Normally, no change in grip is required... just touch bottom of handle to whatever I want to check.
