Default Silly Question, need help!

I am hoping someone here can help. I lost my wedding ring while sledding. The snow has melted and I have searched the hill manually with no luck. I am contemplating renting/buying a metal detector but a conversation with my friend cast some doubt on my hunt.
I was told my platinum ring was not detectable by metal detectors, is this true? Maybe true to some degree? If it can be detected, is there something in a metal detector i should look for (certain abilities, features, etc.), knowing i am specifically hunting for a platinum ring?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Metal detectors will pick up platinum, you just have to turn the discrimijnation down. There may be a local metal detecting club that has a member who would come out and look for it.

If you post your city and state people on this forum who live near you may well help you find it.

Careful, some of these guys might work for beer. That could be costly

Default If it was me

If it was me I would hunt in all metal mode or no discrimination. I also would dig everything that beeps . Im sure the ring wasn't cheap. Plus you might find some other stuff while looking. Who knows you might even get hooked on the hobby. One more thing , If you know where you may have dropped it, do a pattern swinging . This is to make sure your hitting optimal ground. Good luck!

You can pic up a decent little Tesoro for little money and find your ring. You will then be hooked and want more.

Welcome from Kansas. The Sunflower State
I hope you find your ring. I also hope that you will also spend some time reading posts on this form and learn why we all enjoy metal detecting so much. I have made a number of great friends on this forum that I wouldn't have met otherwise.

Good luck. I think your best bet would be to contact the local MD club... they will come out.. likely a couple of people, and search for you. Usually a couple of beers or a burger is reward enough. RickO

Cra,

I live in Racine! I bought a Garret metal detector late last summer but pretty green with it yet. Haven't found anything of significance but I'd be willing to scan the area where you lost the ring. Were you at Lockwood hill or Shoops? Let me know if I can help. I almost lost my wedding ring once and it petrified me so I can't imagine how you feel. I won't even work for beer!
