just curious. I was out at a shut down school here in crawfords indiana and found alot of cool things in about an hour of hunting. I have started just digging signals if they show 6" or deeper on my detector to just try and find old stuff. I know Im probably missing alot but with finds like this I dont care!
anyway there is one piece here that is lead and looks like an arrowhead. anybody ever seen anything like this? just curious. The ring is sterling with 9 small, what look to be diamonds in it. wont know till I take it to the jewelry shop. The dime is a 1919 and the two indians are 1887 and a 1908. unfortunately there is no mint mark on the 1908 . also found a purple piece of costume jewelry. it was at the same depth as the indians so I am assuming its old.Happy Hunting! |

Maybe some kind of metal, but I would think lead would be way to soft, as they wanted the material to be hard. Looks to me like a drop of molten lead.

I agree with Don. Lead is too soft. I have seen some made out of hammered copper though.

I can see why the shape would fool you,
but lead wouldn't be an effective material for an arrow head. I agree with Howey01, what you found is a spill of molten lead. Lead had a lot of uses, it wasn't unusual for bullets to be cast in the field, but it might have been something more mundane like plumbing or roof flashing work. They also used lead to secure iron hand rails and fittings into holes in stone. Hope you're not disappointed. |

I have a lead arrowhead which is about 2 inches across and is a true arrowhead shape like the arrow in this image except the edges are duller and its heavier. My mother found it in the 1930's on what she called the "Oregon Trail" that went through her family farm in Kansas. She showed it to me once when I was little and she told me how she had wondered about it as a child. I found it in her belongings after she passed at the age of 84. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...QEwDw&dur=1687
