Default Night Hunting

Has anyone ever done this ? If so Id assume a friends back yard or your own and I guess .I thought about taping a flashlight to the detector to be able to see the coil or maybe evan get some lighting with an extension cord to the area id be hunting in ,I was evan thinking about night vision goggles .Any suggestions would be great ,I think im going to start treating this hobby like fishing and do it whenever the weather permits it be in the daylight or the dark .I often get the urge to Go metal detecting some times at 3 or 4 pm in the afternoon an think I only have a little day light left so thats where the idea comes from .

I've night hunted before and I used a LED head lamp. It works great and can tilt down any angle that I want. Also has Red LED too. That way you hands are free. If it's taped to your MD, then when you find something it would be awkward to shine the light in the hole while your digging. I got mine at a sporting goods store.

Yep, IMHO headlamps are the best. Bought mine for 9.95 at Bass Pro Shops and it clips to any baseball hat. Used it alot when I would hunt the beach at night for that nice shiny tourist treasure : )

I go night hunting at the beach all the time due to my job getting off so late. I just use a head light, will work a lot better than a flashlight taped to your detector. I got mine for $4 at BIGLOTS.

JB got me one of those LED headlights from Biglots. I can't believe
the power those cheap lights have. Don't waste your money on anything
else. You can't beat it for 4 bucks.

Night hunting has its downside. JB doesn't have to worry because he's
built like a truck but I am always looking over my shoulder for the stray
wacko or body snatcher.

I hunt at night using the same head lamp to see in the scoop, and the lights of the boardwalk to navigate around ,although I don't like night hunting and only do it if I know that the hunt is going to be good like after storm or spring tide ,when the low tide is during the night hours. It is also cool to hunt at night when the full moon is out, ocean is so cool looking at that time.

I like nite hunting. use a headlamp and caution choosing the place to detect, going with a friend is even better.

I would like night vision googles too but for what I read some months ago, you have to spend a nice amount of money to buy a good set, I may be wrong, if you know about a nice affordable model please let me know.

Just tell them you lost some shore line. You need it to tie down all the snipes you've been finding.

Default Out at night a lot !

I use the headlamp also. Nothing on the detector as it's not practical. Moonlit nights I only turn on the lamp when digging or I'm in a hot spot.

I use Glow sticks and attach to my machine with rubber bands.. I have boxes of them... Only problem is with night hunting ( for me anyway) is people get freaked out and call the police..I went to the grade school and academy with most of the local cops and when they pull up they start laughing and tell me to go home... I promised I wouldn't do night hunts anymore.

Night hunting is unique in many ways but people love to call the police to report "a suspicious character" down at the park, etc.

I did night hunting years ago and got regular visits from state troopers. All was well until two trooper sargents checked me. I think those guys got out of the wrong side of the bed that day. Nastiest dudes I ever met in the field. If they could have thought up a reason to haul me they would have. I left the park and that was the end of my night hunts.

I like to hunt at night during the summer, and never have had problems with the police, or anybody else. I used a led light that clips to my hat.

Some parks are closed after dark. Most will have signs with closing times posted.

About half my hunting is done at night. I prefer it. No people to pester you.
Right now we have a group of 5 that meet once a week or so.

I used to use a headlamp but only to dig. They are a bit hard to turn on with gloves. Now I prefer a mag lite with a mouth piece/holder on the back an a string around my neck. I usually just turn it on and let it hang.

I'm also getting used to using no light at all.

Our parks have a 10 pm curfew but we never get hassled ever. I've had more trouble from police etc during the day.

If I get "locals" sizing me up I usually just slowly turn to show the lesche hanging on my side. Just keep your head up, be confident in your demeanor and be friendly. Say hello. You won't have problems.
