Anyone know when Platinum became popular for jewelry? Has it been around for a long time? Was it ever used for coinage? Where is it mined? Anyone have a good link to a website about platinum?

Jason, those are some very good questions. We talk about gold and silver all the time, but not much discussion on platinum. Here's some links I came up with, in case you haven't seen them already:

Those are great sites. Thanks. No wonder platinum is so expensive ($1800/oz). It takes 10 tons of ore and 5 months to make 1 ounce, compared to 3 tons of ore for gold. According to the statistics shown, only 13 ounces of platinum is manufactured per year compared to 594 ounces of gold!
