A guy from work brought in a roll of the new preseidential dollars today. Every coin looks like there has been a hammer or something hit them on the outside. They are also slightly off center. Has anyone heard of a mint defect of the Millard Fillmore coin? I will take a pic in a bit.

It just looks like damaged coins to me. Maybe someone got angry and decided to throw rolls of dollar coins?

Hey tater, I have about $150 in presidential coins (and I've been thinking about getting rid of them) and I checked up that "strange ring". All of my $150 have it, unless all of my coins are messed up also!
They aren't off center either, they're supposed to be like that. @Vlad, go to your local bank and ask for presedential dollar coins, the banks here have TONS of em. __________________ |

I've heard of "Hammered Coinage" before but wow, those are really hammered.
I don't see anything on the net in regards to any errors on those. __________________ |

Those look awful, like play money. I cant believe our mint is putting out junk like these coins.

If it is an error coin.I don't think it will bring much of a premium. Not Like the GW $ coin with no writting on the edges.

Those are not error coins... just typical of the mints current circulating coinage production standards. No premiums there. RickO

Yea, the "ding" is definitely damage after they left the mint. And on the off centered business, I have talked with my friend that works at a coin shop and he said that as long as you can see the rim on both sides of the coin (ie. The thick off center part, and then straight across from it to the narrower side, where the coin should be running close to reaching the face and writing) then they don't bring much value; unfortunately.
Collectors want to see coins that are off center like this:http://www.jimscoins.com/images/off_center_2_wt.jpg http://img185.imageshack.us/i/coin38sw.jpg/ Keep up the attention for detail through your roll searching! HH NC __________________ |
