Default New From New Mexico

Nick here.

I have always wanted to try out metal detecting...
I am about to purchase a detector,
but first I have a couple questions:

Shopping at big 5 I noticed they have a selection of metal detectors...

My first guess is they are cheap and not so good...????
These are the two that I took note of:

Discriminator II- 249.99

Fortune Hunter 139.99

I guess my question is should I go with one of these or an Ace 250 212.00?

Gold & Silver would be great, but no beach here in NM so I assume I will mostly be hunting parks, and old ghost towns here.

I have a budget of 300.00 so Could someone please help me to choose the right metal detector..

Nick

IMO, the 250 is impossible to beat for the price. Welcome and good luck.

Default Welcome from New Jersey !!

Welcome and yes go ACE ,when you buy a detector you should stick to the name brands like Garrett ,Whites ,Minelab and Fisher , chip brand detector is going to drive you away from hobby. Ace is very reliable and able machine.HH

Welcome to the forums, Nick. My first detector is a lightly used one that I got at a great savings; they are often found in the classifieds here and elsewhere. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum.
It's already been said that the Ace 250 is a great detector. Also, I hear the Fisher F2 does very well. I also hear great things about Tesoro Silver Umax.

I would consider these rather than on some unknown from Big5.

Good luck.

RD

Welcome!!!

I have the Ace 250 as well.... it's an incredible machine. I can't imagine the other one's you listed being able to find stuff the Ace can't.

My bet is on the 250!!

Good luck.

Hey from Georgia. +1 on the ACE 250. I have one and started finding coins the 1st day in my front yard. Easy to use and it will get you into the game quickly. Look at the signatures her and see how many "old timers" have an ACE 250 listed in thier stable.

Good luck.
