Default Question for the PI owners

I've been using my Whites Surf PI Pro for a week or so now. I had a couple good finds, a gold ring and a 1907 Barber Dime. I have a question about "discrimination" with the machine though.

While there is no sound discrimination with the PI, I've noticed that virtually every time I get a double beep it is a nail or bobby pin. I'm becoming very tempted to (and sometimes do) skip targets with a double beep under the belief that it is just junk.

Is skipping double beep targets a good idea? I know there is a "dig everything" philosophy that makes sense. But time spent digging nails could be time spent looking for a good target. I guess a big question in this is, what sort of good targets would sound like a nail on a PI?

Thanks!

The problem with skipping over a double beep or broken signal is it could be a gold ring with a broken back (opening where weld is) you have a PI, we dig it all although I do not dig large signals 99% of the time its iron or a can top... as you learn your detector better you will learn the goodfrom the bad... you want a target that gives you a narrow tone... too bad pulltabs give you that type of tone but if you hunted in the water you will cut down on your trash... trash is part of the game isn't it?

I found a gold chain still clasped that gave a double beep. You will dig your share of bottle caps and bobby pins...par for the course.

Unless you are being driven crazy by trash, by eliminating double signals you are effectively eliminating any kind of necklace or un-looped earring out there. As clasps become unsnapped, you get an elongated signal. They are certainly worth digging up, especially since it's only sand. I know that can be a chore when the surf is flying by, but you might be surprised what you may find.

Thanks guys. Pull tabs don't bother me too much since I'd have the same issue with a VLF. Just figured I had a way to weed out a lot of the nails. I'll keep digging those nails and hope I get a gold surprise one of these times!
