Default New from Knoxville, TN

Hello,
I have been thinking about getting back into the hobby. I had a Radio Shack detector about 10 years ago, but had to sell. I am interested in getting back into the hobby and am looking at a beginner model. Either the Fisher F2 or the Ace 250. It is the normal stuff that I am going thru. I think I am leaning more toward the F2, soley on aesthetics. I have an appt tomorrow (1-19-10) to test drive the F2.

Anyway, I have enjoyed reading the forums, so I decided to join.

Thanks.
Pete

I have never owned either machines. But I will say from reading on the internet, the Fisher F2 is a better machine, and people who had an ace 250, like the f2 better.

here are some samples
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can go REALLY wrong with an Ace!

It doesn't like salt beaches or high iron soils.

It doesn't pinpoint well.

It gets poor depth unless the soil is mild, and it likes hot rocks to the nth degree.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------I already owned the ace for a while and can say it was an ok detector. The things that were good about the ace was the acuracy of the id on coins. Also the depth and quality was good for the price. The things i didnt like about it were the hard pinpointing and the difficult targetting. So i sold it.Then i bought the Fisher F2 wich turned out to be a real peace of !!!!.Its 100 percent bounty hunter. No depth shaddy pinpointer and eratic ids with little accuracy.Wouldnt see a Coin past 4 inches. So i got a Tesoro Compadre and like it better than the Ace 250 and Fisher F2.So the question is the Ace better than the F2 is sure is no mistake. But the Tesoro Compadre is better than both for less money
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compadre is a bit easier to use than the ace 250 and target once you get used to it. Its lighter has a bit higher frequency for gold and has a faster swing rate. Yes the ace has an id screen wich is nice but i think the compadre is a bit better for less money.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So maybe you should use your money and get a compadre, or for 239.99 a sillver umax?

I know the user Skiwhiz has had both machines, so he might chime in.

Good luck on your 1st purchase and happy hunting.

now after reading this, I wonder if I should consider the Tosoro. I have such a hard time deciding. Just as soon as I make up my mind, someone brings up a good idea or a negative comment that makes me second guess myself.
