Default Anyone recognize this copper thingy ?

Some sort of decoration that would hold a small leather strap ? You can see the one tang piece on the left and there is one on the right which appears to be in original position. It points straight back.

Its a suspender buckle. Heres some that I found from a 1870s lumber camp. One is almost the same as yours.

Default What an age we live in !

Where we have near instant access to almost any information. Thanks for the photos ! The one is very similar. So is it really copper ? It's kinda tough and may need to be more brassy to hold up to stress. It may be from the same era. I'll poke around and see.
Thanks again ! Mystery solved.
Marty

It appears to be a pull tab......I have even seen these used to make clothes.

I have no idea what the thing on the left is, so it is a little hard to be sure of the size of the item.

I was watching Pawn Stars the other night, and I saw a lock on a 16th Century treasure chest that looked juts like that 'Suspender buckle'.

We watched the same program Austin, the one with the old chest? You're right, it's does looks alot like a buckle on an old chest. This one is not much bigger than a pulltab though, so it would've had to be a pretty small chest.

That's a great collection sofasurfer. I didn't realize they made suspender buckles so decorative.

I would have said that the item on the left was a picture hook, just a guess
