A Couple Of Guys, A Couple Of Detectors Dug Some Old Dumps For Relics

Met my buddy at Macdonalds this morning, had a big breakfast and headed back to an area where there were more old dumps. These are fun to hunt, as you never know what will show up. Both of us just went to the probable areas, usually sloping areas, and hunted with zero discrimination, waiting to find areas where there is a constant rash of signals, usually typical of old dumps, as they are littered with old rusty cans. We found several areas, and worked the top 8" or so in an area about 10' x 10'. It turned out to be a very warm day, very unusual for this northern city. The ice on ponds had already froze a couple of weeks ago.



Here's the type of terrain we hunted. We stayed on the high ground. The digging was easy, as the ground was dry and in most cases covered with leaves.



We ran into this camp, probably squatted by a homeless person or two. There was electronic speakers, radios, cd's all over the place, probably stolen. There were at least 6 sleeping bags spread out in layers over some bed mattresses. A lot of people prefer to live in the woods instead of the hostels, as they don't have to deal with having things stolen while they sleep. Every year they find a few frozen bodies when the temperatures reach -30's.



Here's the finds from this area. A nice variety of old objects. That old pirate belt buckle is kinds cool. Not old, but still a keeper.



My favorite, was this old metal cast bus. I have always enjoyed digging old toys, and this one will sit near the fireplace at home with the rest of my old toy cars and trucks.



Here's the other decent finds. It's always nice to get a small window into the yester-years.

And so it was, another great day in the woods, moving some of that dirt around and digging some good sounding blings on our detectors. And another adventure to remember some years down the road.

Man really cool, where are your from? I would love for the lakes to be frozen over here, I would love to get out there and do some ice fishing, my son is driving me nuts over it. Ice fishing is our other favorite time of year. Love those walleye's and perch here in the lake's makes for for some good eats.

I'm one of your northern neighbors, in Alberta, which is north of Montana, a 12 hour drive north with a little speeding to a city called Edmonton.

Oh way up north, I can't believe you have homeless people living outside during the winter up there, I know that they have to be smart enough to not live in the woods during the winter, especially up there.
