Default Home-made Beach Scoop?

Has anyone ever made their own beach scoop before (or for that matter any homemade md'ing accessories)? If you have any pics, I'd love to see 'em. I'm interested to see if I can do it with ordinary household goods and relatively cheap parts from the hardware store if needed. Any suggestions?

I purchased my scoop and don't regret it. However, I met a guy on the beach who was using an ice scoop that he drilled holes in. It worked really well for him. You could probably do the same thing with an old coffee can, but it would lack a handle. Here's a link to an ice scoop like the one he was using. As you can see, they come in various sizes and are a lot cheaper than most sand scoops.

If you are good at welding, you can make one out of expanded metal. That's the way mine is made.

One of our members moniker coconut has a video on you tube to make an effective inexpensive scoop.
It you find coconut in the directory just look up previous posts then scroll till you find the link or try u-tube.

Good Luck Out There.

Do a search on this Forum. There are lots of ideas floating around.

If you are going to be in wet sand you will need a metal scoop. Plastic will not hold up.

It can be done, but anything like what you are proposing will not be nearly as strong or long lasting as a commercial sand scoop. RickO
