I want to ask if any gold or other things read zinc.
I usually dig all targets but I am guilty of ingnoring a good zinc signal. If they wander around zinc I dig it and it is usually a zinc. I am using a tesoro de leon if that helps. Thanks. Good Luck Out There. __________________ |

Gold can register almost anywhere on the scale depending on the size and purity of the gold. A small piece of gold jewelry can register as low as iron or foil and a large ring or gold coin can show up at zinc penny or even higher. That's probably not what you wanted to hear but that's the way it is with gold.
The only way you can never miss gold is to dig everything. I'm too lazy to do that so I know I have more than likely walked past gold. Depending on where you are hunting, passing zinc signals also eliminates any chance of finding IH pennies. A later IH penny(1864-1909) registers almost exactly like a zinc penny. I know I ruined more than one IH when I wasn't careful digging what I thought was a shallow zinc penny.

I would say that PhilB nailed it exactly right. Gold is sneaky and always surprises me when I find it.

Yea..I was kind of afraid of that. Hunting with my Pulse Induction gives me no choice.
Thanks. __________________ |

Hay N2it,
There are not a lot of gold targets that register as zinc. I assume you are talking about zinc clad penny?? When a gold item does register as a zink, it tends to be a real nice one. Here is a $1,000 platinum and 18k gold ring I found that hit hard and registered as a zinc on my Tesoro machines. ![]() They say that a Indian Head registers as zinc as well. Happy Huntin, Tabdog |

Dig everything - that way you avoid the 'shoulda, coulda, woulda' blues...

Great tutorial on gold and the zinc range. I learn something new here every day. I didn't know IH's registered as zinc. That makes things really interesting and tight on my 12 disc range detector. I now have copper pennies, zincolns, dimes and IH's fighting for two bars and the blank space between them on my ID. I guess it was a good investment buying a pair of headphones.
