Default Bounty Hunter Pinpointer Review

Hey gang
Noticed a thread about a sale on this item for $19.99 at Cabella's.
I had to give it a go for that price. WOW! Never thought I really need-
ed one of these, now I'm asking"how did I ever detect without this!!"
It helped me locate and quickly recover two finds yesterday, and is simple
to opperate. My only complaint is you have to bend the plastic (be care-
full) to keep the battery cap on. No big deal!
The web site lists these for around $50.00 I believe, and the cheapest
I found on Ebay was $37.00,so the price is a STEAL in my opinion.
A much cooler unit for the price than the Harbour Freight,or Tinytech
units, which look like do-do. FAST FAST shipping and fair S&H charges
too! A++++

The pro pointer blows the BH pinpointer out of the water, hell out of this galaxy to be honest, there is no comparing the two. The Garrett is in it's own class by itself.

Default Can't beat it for the price

I ordered one of these too and cannot believe I went so long without a pinpointer. For the price I don't think there is anything else to compare. If you have been thinking about getting a pinpointer give this one a try, it makes a good stepping stone to see if you really like using one, or if nothing else it makes one really inexpensive backup.

I got the bounty hunter on ebay about a month ago for 37.00 and it IS a great starter pinpointer.
The Garrett is much greater as is the price but for a starter there isn't a thing wrong with the BH pinpointer IMO.
Has helped me a great deal. I found a solid gold ring yesterday and thanks to my pinpointer I was able to safely target it and pull it out with narry a scratch on it.

I bought one of those BH pin pointers two years ago.

It would not vibrate enough that I could feel it. The
sound was not loud enough to hear outside. It messed
up right away and I had to squeeqe it to make it work.

I never found a target with it. It has been collecting
dust for two years. It still works just like it did before.

I got a TinyTech after that. I stick that thing in dirt
and dig soft dirt with it. It is way better and tougher
that it looks. It is almost two years old and it still keeps
tickin.

TinyTech puts BH to shame, in my opinion.

I have a Harbor Freight incase the TinyTech goes out.
I can find a target OK with the HF, but not the BH. I
would not want to depend on the HF for long though.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

Thumbs up Trying To Be Kind But Honest

Moises...
I am an old newbie and have used the BH LoneStar with the BH Pinpointer for at least two years..... At my age it is hard to remember... I have a 55 Gal barrel of junk metal finds that I save, for what reason I am unsure. It probably represents 100's of dug targets. Most of them were finally identified with the Pinpointer. I have to admit that I have not used any other hand held instrument so my experience is limited. Now comes the hard part, trying to share without offending. I am looking for a new pinpointer. The BH pinpointer works, there is no doubt about that. It has a very limited range, but again, I may not be giving it a fair shot as I have not personally used anything else. I have watched, but not used other pin-pointers at work. The rear load battery is troublesome, as with but a few replacements, I have to use duct tape to keep the end cover on. Now don't get me wrong, it works, but it "ain't" great. I received my equipment for a present a couple of Christmas's ago and , God bless my wife, she had no idea what she was purchasing. I wouldn't have either at that point. It came as part of a package so I have never been without a pin-pointer. I have often wondered, however, how I would have found some of the "stuff" (example...22 cal. casings) without using one. I believe the answer to my problem is to purchase a detector capable of handling an in-line product. Which illustrates my point. It comes down to personal choice and where you are in life. If 20 or 50 bucks is no big deal to you, then by all means, try a BH Pinpointer, especially if you have never used one before. On the other hand, if it is important to you my advice would be to save up for a while and purchase a very good product that you won't have to replace in the near future. I'm sorry, that sounds like fatherly advice and I don't mean it to be that way. Just trying to help. I'm still way new at this stuff so take my comments with a grain of salt. Be safe on your adventures.

The Gray Haired (now skinny ) Old Man

I have inline pinpointers and handheld pinpointers. I feel they are a valuable tool in recovering small targets. I prefer the inline units... more range, very durable and they clip to the shaft of your MD. Yes, they are expensive compared to the handhelds, well, most of them anyway. The Pistol Probe is a PI unit and very effective. Again, more expensive. A lot depends on your financial resources and dedication to the hobby. Good luck..HH RickO

I don't know if this sounds stupid because I don't do that much dirt hunting...but for the times that I have...why would you want a pinpointer that got more than 1 - 1 1/2" any way? Isn't that what the detector is for? I just don't see trying to fumble through more dirt than that!

Lol i did it because many did it.. it does save time sometimes.. like if you have no clue where its at just point and bam instead of digging all over it

I do think it saves time when you need it but to have one that would work too deep I think would be counterproductive.

Just got the BHPP today. I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if it improves finding the target quicker at all. Might come down to personal preference, but I know from experience that ya get what ya pay for. But for 37 bux, figured I'd give it a try.

The HF unit at $15 is, in my opinion, a good buy. We have one and my Wife prefers it over the Pistol Probe. It has been used for 2 years now without any problems at all.

I got a Fisher pinpointer with a detector I bought. It is the same thing as the B.H. and the Teknetics pinpointer & I found it about useless. I had to almost touch the coin on the probe to get it to work. I wouldn't waste my $$$ on one.

My BHPP came included with the Quick Draw II. I got the HF one later, was order some other stuff, figured why not. The BH is a little bit of a bother, to adjust the sensitivity, every time you use it, but the inch or so range is great. I seldom dig holes bigger than 4 inches across, so does take much to check the plug, sides and bottom, to find the item.

The HF is a little too sensitive, but has about the same range. Went back to the BH. Considering the price difference, it's worth it. Don't see the Propointer in my near future, cost almost as much as my QD II...
