Default Coinstar find !

Nothing big, but since I just last night scored a silver quarter in the ground it's pretty cool. Fourteen cents in the discard bin and there were 2 American (.01), 2 Canadian (.01) and a Canadian 1968 (.10) ! I'm pretty sure the dime is Silver ! Anyone want to correct that ? It doesn't stick to the magnet and it's in the right year for a certain percentage of silver.

Default Nice going on

the coinstar machine. A 68 Canadian dime is 50% silver.
by the current price of silver, it should be worth around 50 cents. I always side glance the coinstar machines. I kind of saunter up close by and check the return pocket. So far I am batting .000. My dear old grandpap used to check every pay phone he saw. He was almost totally blind and walked with a red cane. We walked into his favorite beer stop, the Polish American club in New Bedford Ma. one afternoon and my dad ahead of him loaded the coin return with about a pound of change so he could see the reaction. It was a great day, he died about a year later. I guess I am a bit to proud to stick my hand in the slot with anyone looking, but I would be more than happy to find a silver dime in one....Gil

Default Cool payphone story.....

Here's mine. At at ski resort we worked at for one winter I poked the payphone coin return flap with my finger and it wouldn't budge. I knew exactly what that meant. Then I took my mini maglight and really poked 'er good. The change went back up the chute and I was able to empty it for just over $10 in change ! Woohoo !

P.S. I stll check 'em today. You never know. I see people using payphones all the time. Seems a bit strange with the mobile phone craze in full swing.

My dad got a slot machine payout at a pay phone once. Coin got jammed so he kept hitting coin return and emptied all the coins out LOL. Some guy mentioned he lost 10 cents in that phone and my dad told him too bad

I haven't found a single silver coin in over 2 years now. Now and then I'll get a clad dime or token. I did get a handful of clad once, I posted it on the original coinstar thread.
