I found a 1988 Un Centavo tonight, and on the back it says republica de guatemala. What is a Centavo. It's nothing really old worth posting a picture of, like I said it's a 1988, I'm just wondering what a centavo is, like penny, dime what ever. thanks for watching.

Essentually it's a Guatemalan penny. Many countries have Centavos ... usually based on the Peso, it would be 100th of the Peso if I'm not mistaken.

You are right. A centavo is 1/100th of the country's main currency unit, equivalent to our cent, or the French centime back when they were on the Franc.

Thats kind of what I thought, with the "cent" in the name and all. I just wanted to be sure, tried to look it up but couldn't really find it, or maybe I was just to lazy to really look that hard. Thanks guys, It's not old like I said, but the coin is cool.
