I don't own a Minelab machine, but have thought about getting one a lot. Now that I am having so much trouble with my Vision it might just give me the push I need.
First I need your knowledge about the E-Trac and SE Pro. What are the big differences between each machine? I know Minelab's are good for deep silver, but what about lead, brass, and civil war relics? Any info about the subject would be awesome and appreciated. |

I can't say much about the E-Trac except I want one!
I really do like my SE I up graded it by adding the Pro coil. All the coils that work on the explorers will also work on the E-Trac The SE does very well on on lead and brass as well as coins. I am a bit far north to find much civil war relics but I have found one. The SE is not hard to set up or learn. moving the sunray probe as far back close to the elbow and adding the pro coil cured the weight issue. Depending on your budget you can get a used SE for half the price of a new E-Trac Hopefully Detector will chime in as he has used the SE and now has the E-Trac. Cliff |

Both are excellent detectors for sure. When it comes to deep silver the reputation speaks for itself.
I think some of the big differences are stability, balance, visual recovery speed and ID accuracy. It may just be the Pro coil on the E-Trac, which my SE didn't have, but the E-Trac is more stable, and more stability can equal more usable depth. The SE would hurt my back after several hours of hunting, while I've hunted five hours straight with the E-Trac and felt just fine. One of the best improvements in my opinion is the expanded Conductive range. Without a doubt the E-Trac has the most accurate ID'ing on deep targets. Especially silver. Probably why ET'ers find so much silver. I posted last week about getting a signal I was 90% sure it would be a silver coin that my buddy's DFX didn't even get a signal on. At roughly 10" I pulled the silver dime. If you've never used a Minelab FBS detector one of the biggest adjustments you must make is to the speed you hunt. A faster processor on the E-Trac takes the pain out of dealing with a slow update speed. I wish we lived closer I'd love to exchange my E-Trac for your Vision for a try. I'm still very interested in the V3 If your main hunting is for relics you might think about the Minelab Sovereign GT. Very close to the same depth ability as the E-Trac, just not as coin friendly. __________________ Last edited by Detector; 10-17-2009 at 07:22 AM. |

I had a SE and sold it ( not a good move) then got a e-trac and I have had it now for 5 mo.. I had the SE for about 1 1/2 yrs and found way more silver with the SE in the first 4 mo. , then with the e-trac. So I'm going to keep the e-trac but I have a SE coming in in about week. I don't now why the SE likes silver better but it does where I live.

I know the SE can sometimes identify deep iron as a coin (at least in this area with hotter settings). Is the E better in this respect?
