Default Coil cable question

I'm a newbie and have a question: Does all that extra coil cable wrapped around the rod degrade the signals between the coil and control unit? Would minimizing this distance help performance?

The extra cable does not degrade the signals. Reducing the length of the cable would only invalidate any warranty you may have on your coil.

Thanks for the reply. My thinking was that electrical currents degrade over distance. I'm sure that the engineers have though of that though.

I was told when I began detecting years ago, to keep it wrapped fairly snug around the shaft with no loose loops in the cable, that could cause false signals. I always leave enough at the coil for it to pivot some without binding.

What silversmith said - I had signals that I couldn't find till I tightened the coil around the shaft and taped it. End of problems, Steve in so azx
