Fairly new to the hobby and was hoping to get some good tips here. Also if anyone knows some good detecting areas in Indiana. Just going to parks gets kinda boring. This is an awesome and interesting hobby.

Lots of those farmer fields and old homes viewed from the Interstates look tempting to me. Chautauquas were held all throughout the rural countryside. There are several large reservoirs/lakes with beaches.
Old roads to abandoned homes and cabins are golden. Old settlements long gone now are good too. Find old maps. The areas you can detect are virtually endless if you think about it. The hardest part is the research to find these sites and obtain the necessary permission to hunt. It's time consuming. Tell friends, co-workers, in-laws and neighbors that you MD and would they know of any places you could hunt at. Print a few cards and volunteer to MD the churches' tot lots for metal trash then network with the people you meet there. I agree, parks can be boring, but they can produce some old silver due to their age. Being out on a piece of property that you're free to explore is pretty neat. Invite the property owner to go with you the first time. Whatever it takes to make them comfortable with you. __________________ |

Thanks all for the nice welcome. Seeing and reading about some of the finds of others gives you an exciting feeling about this hobby. Very steep learning curve and takes a lot of patience.
Thanks again!

Where are you at here in Indiana? Im from Randolph county. You have to do your homework to find good stuff. Go to the historicial society and maybe they have maps you can get of the old home steads. This is how i have found lots of my "good" finds. Take a look at my album it was all found in Indiana.
