Default Had high hopes...

Received permission to hunt a property in the process of being sold which I thought might be untouched grounds. It borders on a very old Revolutionary War era protected park. Performed a deep scan grid, nothing but a sewer line noted. After two days of scanning in coin and all-metal modes, it came up a desert except for some nails, and a copper trim piece. Tried both detectors and came to the same conclusion to close the book on this one. It was a desert, not even a Memorial to be had.

The mosquitos were carrying knives and forks I might add.

That's a shame but sometimes "the best laid plans".

No, but I do have a back door adjacent to that. It's public property too.

I had thought the same thing as the grounds are not landscaped and the soil seems to be like fill dirt. No top soil anywhere.

Well you were there. Do you have a larger coil for your detector? Or maybe you could borrow one from a friend with a lger. coil. Like Ricko said, could be fill. I'd try & hit it again, GOOD LUCK

I really sounds like there was some serious dirt-filling, or scraping going on. It's very very odd to not get period-era junk in the least. How is the ground mineralization? I have heard of pockets/areas of soil where detectors couldn't get past an inch or 2 in depth. Sometimes best planned sites don't work out, and the ones you find on accident produce loads of goodies for years to come.
