Default August 6, 2009 Was A Six Silver Day! - “Silver Hawk” Takes A Standing Liberty and Five Mercury Dimes!

My MXT reminded me once again why I love it so much! If there is silver in the ground, my MXT and I will find it! …

Through a friend I got permission to do some metal detecting on some property within a very old town South of New Jersey’s Capital. The private property that I hunted belongs to a family that is credited with being the first European settlers in this area back in 1682.

I was hunting with my White’s MXT with the Excelerator 10” DD Coil and the White’s Eclipse 6x10 DD. Within the first 5 minutes of my hunt and using the Excelerator 10” DD Coil I hit a good signal that I locked onto and pinpointed at 8 inches and it turned out to be a 1941 Mercury Dime that ended a “Silver Slump” that dates back to June 25th after I had been killing the silver coins from early March through June 25th when my “Silver” Coin count stood at 43.

Not 3 feet away from the hole where I recovered the 1941 Mercury Dime I locked onto another good signal at 7 inches that turned out to be a 1927 Standing Liberty Quarter! Then after digging lots of trash I got a good signal at 4 inches and dug a 1920 and 1942 Mercury Dime in the same hole!

Later in the afternoon after eating lunch I went back and hunted a different section and switch to using my 6x10 DD and hit a 1936 Mercury Dime at about 4 inches. It turned out to be only good target recovered in that area so I moved to a different area. It was then getting late and I thought I better head home and while working my way back to my truck I hit a good signal at 6 inches less than 12 inches from the sidewalk and I dug my second 1920 Mercury Dime for the day.

A Standing Liberty Quarter and Five Mercury Dimes, these six “Silver” Coins bring my 2009 total to 49 …

I have to get back to this place soon!!!

Your silver slump is well and truly in the past! I can't believe it; SIX silvers in one day!!!

Silver Hawk, you are well and truly the silver king!

What a beautiful Standing Liberty Quarter Dollar, and in excellent condition! It's a coin that's definitely on my wish-list. Was the signal loud and clear when your coil locked onto it?

Congratulations on a phenomenal silver day!

Note:

It's a Standing Liberty Quarter, not a Walking Liberty Quarter as I mistakenly and repeatedly called it!

I made the correction to the title as well as throughout the post.

I don't know ... I guess I need to take a few aspirins and lay down for a while ...

Best Regards,
Silver Hawk

Thank you sir. Just keep swinging that coil and your slump will end soon. It just a matter of time.

I was running my again at + 1 and the Standing Liberty Quarter hit with a VDI that bounced between 84 and 85 at 7 inches. After I removed a little dirt, the VDI was a solid 86. Not bad at all because the quarter was on edge. The EXcelerator 10” DD is a “Silver” Magnet and I recover some very deep silver coins with it on my MXT and M-6.

The Mercury Dimes all gave me a VDI readout at about 80 if memory is serving my correctly. But then again I repeatedly called my Standing Liberty Quarter a Walking Liberty Quarter. So I don’t know if I’d listen to me on that …

Actually if you look closely you can see that Ms. Liberty is walking, but strait at you. And not how she’s looking off to her left. Most don’t know this, but she was checking me out …

Best Regards,
Silver Hawk

I think it's all the excitement, Silver Hawk! Now pour yourself a nice, hot cup of tea and put your feet up and relax. Whether Lady Liberty is standing or walking, is unimportant. (Although she does look like she's walking!) What is important is that you dug up that gorgeous coin, and Lady Liberty can see the light of day again!
