I was out detecting an old park in the Midwest and found this coin about an inch below the surface. I probably assume it's a replica.
However, I see that there are companies (for instance, http://atochatreasures.com, http://www.melfisher.com) which make silver replicas. So it still might be worth $20-100, instead of $0-2 as a kid's toy piece. Anyone have an idea how I might better research this one? I've not yet found anything online which quite matches the markings. |

I dug one very similar a while ago, and you see them posted on the forum often. I think it is more than safe to assume it is a replica made from a base metal. Silver would be pretty distinct, and even then I don't think it would be worth more than a few bucks in melt value. Still a cool find though. Congrats!

Through extensive searching of Google Images, etc. I finally found an exact match on the coin: http://www.gunsandswords.com/replica...-set-of-6.html.
I'll say this much, though -- though I never expected it to be genuine, there was quite the adrenaline rush when I first pulled it from the ground. |

I would say so! I bet your heart skipped a beat on that one.
