Default Super 12 Coil

Why is there so many Super 12 coils on Ebay? Is this coil not any good. Just wondering. Still new to White's products.

I'm not sure why. The coil is a very nice coil...albeit a bit "heavy" feeling. I think it's nice in the open areas...deep and points well.

Having said that, I must admit that I rarely use mine on either the MXT or the Vision. I favor the DD style coils and there are several sizes that work well. I'm of the opinion that DD's handle EMI better than concentric coils...though others may argue that point.

That's just a guess.

i have a minelab that has the pro coil and it does real well. Thanks for the reply. May look at dd coils for dfx.

It is a good coil for the right conditions, but as Lowjiber mentioned, the DD coils are more popular. Ground coverage tends to be more important than depth.

the area i hunt is older open parks, so depth is a big concern for me. I work slow so i do not have to cover a lot of area at one time.

There are two types of super 12. One the first super 12s has a orange peel type of texture and had some problems with the dfx in the line of pin pointing. The revised super 12 or second type has a smooth texture. The textures are from the way the two coils were made ie:Blow mold/injected or vacuume formed. The super 12s as (detector) stated are a very good coil for the right conditions.

Generally the older parks have a problem with a lot of old trash. The Super 12 doesn't like a lot of trash. It works great in open areas with minimal trash, but you will struggle in even moderate trash areas. The DD coils do quite well with trash and cover a lot of ground quickly, they just don't have quite the depth as the round concentric coils.

To give you an example, comparing the Super 12(concentric) to the Eclipses 6x10 DD. The Super 12 will get roughly 10-12" deep, 12" in very very good conditions, while the 6x10 will get roughly 9-10", 10" in very very good conditions.

Dave is right. I had the super 12 orange peel coil and had nothing but problems with it. I sent it back to whites and they replaced it with the new coil. The repair slip said the old coil had a pin hole leak.

The orange peel coil, and the new smooth coil take different coil covers.

I own both varieties of Super12. Some of the early Super 12 coils had a noise problem. I have never heard of a pinpointing problem with either coil. The Super 12 coil weighs about 2 ounces more than the stock 950 coil. So it is actually very light for it's size. It might seem heavy to "Retired California guys" however. I own both D2 and 6x9 DD coils. They are more noisy in EMI areas than the Super 12. Concentric coils are better in high EMI areas in general. Using a Super 12 coil on a MXT is a nightmare of noise. If you own a DFX and want to increase your old coin finds you should purchase one of these Super 12 coils you see for sale. There is no better all around coil in my opinion for the DFX. Hope this helps answer some questions.

Keep Swing,in

I agree with Cybersage... I own a DFX 300 so it came with the newer Super 12', which may be the reason for so many on EBay, people are selling their Super 12" stock Coil for a replacement DD or D2. I LOVE the Super 12", the depth is great, it's stable noise wise, a little heavy but easy to get used too. I also own a 4x6" DD for trashy areas and tot lots, everywhere else I use the 12". I have pulled a ton of stuff from 10-12" range that ID'd well on the VDI, where a smaller coil or a DD would possibly have trouble with a good VDI readout at that depth. If you can snag a 12" for a reasonable price, do so!! I myself am after a D2 or large DD soon, that way I have decent depth with the better target seperation to work in large coverage trashy areas.
